In Red State Kentucky Governor Bashere won reelection in a campaign centered on abortion and culture war issues.

In Virginia in a campaign also centered on abortion and culture war issues the Democrats seemed poised to take control of both houses of the state legislature seemingly dealing a blow to Governor Youngkin’s future presidential ambitions.

Ohio voters handily approved a measure adding abortion as a right guaranteed by the state’s constitution.

Virginia and New Jersey elected their first trans and LGBTQ state legislators respectively.

ASPartOfMe’s takeaways:

The mood of progressives sure has changed from a couple of days ago when a poll said that Trump had a commanding lead in 5 of 6 battleground states.

To make conclusions about next year based on off year elections is folly, especially considering the west coast has not come in, and the fallout if any in from the mideast war was a non issue in these elections and the future is unknown. But I am going to do it anyway.

I need to amend my previous claim that if the election were held today Trump would win to if the election were held today Trump would win and the Democrats would win control of both houses of Congress by today’s standards a comfortable margin.

Democrats all levels need to run on a platform about passing a federal law guaranteeing the right to an abortion. No matter where the conversation goes always pivot back to abortion.
