The White Horse of Conquer
The Red Horse of War
The Black Horse of Famine
The Pale Horse of Pestilence

What do you guys think? Are they purely a representation of the biblical End of Days or do they mean something more?

I personally think these four concepts: conquering, war, starvation, and disease are exactly what contributes to the collapse of every human civilization.

We're already starting to see some of this happening on a global scale. Conquer? Check (Western Imperialism and Colonialism, the rise of China as the next world power, etc)). War? Check (Russia and Ukraine war plus Israel and Hamas war which both are a threat to the global order). Famine? Check (The massive food and supply shortages in stores). Pestilence? Check (The Covid Pandemic which REALLY messed things up for all of us!).

Just an amusing fairy story.

And yet conquest, war, hunger, and disease are the four driving factors that contribute to the eventual fall of every civilization.

I just see these four horsemen as the perfect metaphor for the collapse of civilizations, and their attributes will most likely contribute to humans destroying their own planet too. It doesnt prove God is real, it's just self-fufilling prophecy. :jester:

They are very interesting from a literary standpoint.

I thought the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were:

War, Plague, Famine, Death.

We're certainly seeing all of those at present.

I think the fourth one is Death riding a pale horse which is supposed to represent "pestilence" (iow a fatal epidemic or pandemic like the bubonic plague or in very recent times covid.)

Those four things have existed for about as long has humans have existed. And they always will exist because humanity is stupid.

Actually I think famine and disease can be blamed more on nature.

What's the difference between Pestilence and Plague though? They seem to be the same.

They are the same, that's the point.

The fourth horseman represents pestilence/plagues/diseases that spread and kill off entire populations. :skull:

So the 4 horsemen are:

War, Famine, Death and Plague/Pestilence/Disease?

Confusing!

Because surely War and Conquer mean the same thing? Wish they'd make their minds up what they're called.

No... Pestilence, Plagues, and Disease are the same thing. But the fourth horseman is Death aka the Angel of Death riding the Pale Horse which is called "Pestilence".

The others are Conquer (white horse), War (red horse), and Famine the black horse (starvation brought on by droughts or depleted resources).

EDIT: Actually scratch all that, I had to check google and apparently there's some contradictions that messed me up and threw me off.

The New Testament describes the four horsemen as "Conquest, War, Famine, and Death"

But something in other sources refers to the first horse Conquest as "Pestilence".

I guess that's where I got confused? Woops.

We are autistic, we need clarity!

I got the Horsemen's names from the book Good Omens- War, Plague, Famine, Death. At least I think that's what they were called!

Maybe it's just one of those religious things that changes depending on the interpretation or source? :)

For example I hear that Catholics take the story of Judith, the beautiful widow who saved Israel from a ruthless enemy general by seducing him with alcohol and decapitating him with his own sword while passed out drunk, a lot more seriously than Protestants or Jews do (they consider the tale to be a kind of fiction).
