You know your church is having problems when you tell your congregation that upcoming services have to be canceled because no insurance providers will work with you because of all the sexual abuse, and that means all in-person interactions have to be put on pause.

That happened to The Meeting House in Ontario, the church that used to be run by Bruxy Cavey.

I didn't even know sexual assault insurance existed.

I didn’t know that sexual assault insurance existed either although it shouldn’t even surprise me at this point.

So often, religious organizations don’t seem to give a damn about victims. It’s about money. Some are obsessed with preserving their reputation, but that mostly comes down to money too.

Well...even your trusty family doctor has "malpractice insurance". As I understand it thats standard. But your family doctor likely doesnt get sued for malpractice so often that the insurance company DROPS them!

But yeah...I had no idea either that churches had the option to...buy..."sexual abuse coverage" for lawsuits.

That must be a relatively new thing in the insurance industry [he said while shaking his head].

Do the Boy Scouts have it?

When I was a kid in the Sixties folks were like "WHAT? A priest molest a child? That would NEVER happen!". But with the ever growing world wide scandal within the RCC ...nowadays the words "pedophile" and "priest" go together like "Abercrombie" goes with "Fitch". Lol!

And apparently the RCC doesnt have a monopoly on pedophilia.

Sexual abuse is a huge problem among Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, and various other fundamentalist sects.

When I was growing up, the idea that reporting CSA could bring “reproach on Jehovah’s name” was huge, so many didn’t report. Folks worried that reporting would keep people from finding “the Truth” and salvation.

Now they often push the narrative that reports are lies.

I suspect that in the coming years we’ll hear a lot more about coverups in these organizations as well as about abuse in religion in general.

Can't help but wonder if there are any churches that don't have a case waiting to be discovered.
