It seems strange to me that the people who gave Christianity popularity and strength have now denounced it and actively persecute it. Of course I'm not an expert, since I live in America, but judging by these posts it seems to be true.

Not just Europeans, most of the people here are militant atheists.

I'm an ex-militant atheist turned buddhist/jainist/lavey satanist turned apatheist.

Hates a strong word. Just because you reject a concept does not mean you hate it.

It's hard for me to decipher between "reject" and "hate/everyone wants to kill me and torture me because I'm a Christian." I guess I get worried that one day everybody will kill me because I believe in Christianity, even though I like most everybody on this board, atheist and all.

The murder rate is quite low in Europe so your likely safe. And America is overwhelming Christian so your safe to be Christin here to.

Apparently 21% of Americans have passports ! Ha can you believe it, what a joke ... it's just a statistic but it belies such an insular view of the world, insular thinking - no wonder you are ruled by a monkey and wander about the world killing hundreds of thousands of people - one nation under stupidity.

Europeans actually realise that there are like other people like living on the planet. Yes really, I kid you not. There is this pretty picture that shows what the world looks like, atlas I think they call it. If you guys are not to busy praying to George Bush's gun cabinet, maybe you should go buy one. See if you can find Iraq on it ... actually forget that, see if you can find America on it.

That or maybe it just costs a little more to travel over 4,000 miles to go somewhere that you'd need it and that Canada and Mexico don't really get people all that excited?

Chuchulainn, I think its easier to be anti-something when it little more than a faded memory and when all you hear from the media is how much it sucks. Here in the US there are enough Christians to where you see them on a daily basis, know who they are and what they're about, so its easier to keep your facts straight and keep the reality of it in proportion when its around you all the time.

Exactly, it is not hate, is a different thinking and the rejection of few concepts, I can tell you that some people here feel uncomfort because of what those concepts represent to them, mostly when those are used to suppress their rights. (I think Raggy knows what am I talking about)

That's what's baffling about the European context of it though. I can see someone in the bible-belt who's surrounded and who's quality of life is controlled by Christians and who isn't like them, they've got a point.

As far as the wars in the Middle-east though, the intervention or whatever people would like to look at it as though, I don't see the correlation between that and Christianity though. It did really piss me off that GWB ran his mouth about being guided by god in his decision making but I really don't think that's why most people who were for the wars were even about it, they just didn't want the problems brought to our soil (also I won't deny the possibility of Halliburton wanting to get their hands on some oil contracts, but still - no Jesus in that either).

I find it disturbing that you Europeans are so arrogant, when we pretty much do all the work for you--inventing airplanes, computers, video games, televisions, jazz (maybe not such a good thing), cars, etc., are pretty much the leaders in every subject, and can take the whole world on with our military. You're just jealous that America is in a golden age, and your age has passed.

Moreover, I guess I'm just a vulnerable target. People have always liked to get me going. I should probably stop using WP.

Chuchulainn, they can afford to have wellfare states because they don't need the standing army - they have us for that when they need help.

America's age is over. The age of China has begun. And the Germans invented cars - the underlying theory for TV and Computers comes from a Scot and Jazz has Spanish roots.

Okay, sorry about the bile.

I would be right behind America if it actually lived up to any of its ideals, but it's just so f***ed up in so many ways. And the homogeneity of ideas in the US is the worst part, you have no hope of an end to this disaster as long as every Dem Candidate has to swear they love Jesus and Israel to get a chance of being elected.

No wonder the country is seen as a dangerous joke by the rest of the world - don't believe me ? get a passport you will see. Much more dangerous that al-qeda or al anyone.

I am all for brave men and the ideals of liberty and freedom, and the cowboy riding over the land - it's a beautiful picture. But a picture is all it is. Today American families willingly send their sons to die 10,000 miles away so that millionaires in Washington get rich : and when their sons die, their families love their country even more as they drape the stars and stripes over the coffin and the millionaires by another ranch - W H A T T H E F * * * ? Wake up.
