At the end of the year in fifth grade, the teachers let the kids vote on which era they would come to school dressed as: 1950s or 1960s. The Fifth grade class voted 1950s, and the kids came to school with slicked back hair and leather jackets like on "Happy Days."

My mom was a kid in the 50s and from what she's told me, the 1950s in Atlantic Canada was more like the 1850s.
