Why are people in the US government clinging to Trump?
On some level I kinda get why his voters supported him. His white rural working class voters feel ignored and demonized by the Democrats, the Islamic community voted for him basically because they were against Biden and Harris supporting Israel in the whole Gaza thing (talk about cutting one's nose to spite one's face...), and certain hispanic populations like the Cubans in Florida panicked when they saw leftists embracing words like "Socialism" (they came to this country to flee a brutal dictatorship back home that also uses such a label). I also imagine Trump has gained support from Jewish Americans due to his stance on protecting Jewish students on college campuses and his support for Israel.
BUT what I don't understand are the lawmakers close to him who can clearly see that he's putting the US on a path of self-destruction and still stick with him. What exactly do these people get out of this? Are they really truly stupid enough to follow his lead down the path to Hell, or is there a more sinister agenda behind their "support" for this orange antichrist?
Also I personally believe that the most dangerous thing about the Trumpism movement isnt that Trump wants to be a dictator. It's the fact that he's so terrible at it. He may have screwed up a lot of things in the US government but he's also highly incompetent at trying to enforce his power.
Sometimes I get the feeling he's more a puppet than anything, and not just an asset for Russia.

Fear.
The Republican lawmakers fear at best that Trump will have a supporter run against and beat them during the nominating process. There are good reasons for them to fear that.
They fear for the safety of themselves and their families.

Either those people are as weak-willed as sheep blindly following their shephard at best, or as stubborn as mules at worst.
Either way, whether it was Trump's agenda or another power's goal to crumble the US into shattered pieces, I can honestly admit it's just plain wicked and unthinkable. Yes, the US may have a certain amount of flaws in history, but they way things are here now are just by far the WORST.

It depends on how you define evil.
America has certainly murdered far more foreign civilians since the end of WWII, compared to worst Korea.

And yet in the US I don't have to worry about being sent to a life in a gulag for watching a Korean drama.

That's why I said it depends on how one defines evil.
Worst Korea is much more evil to it's own citizens.
America has been much more evil towards people who aren't their own citizens.
Not having a long track record of being evil in one regard doesn't mean a state isn't terribly evil in other regards though. Worst Korea's evil is easier for outsiders to tolerate, because it won't impact them, but that doesn't mean it isn't terrible.
The US's evil draws more attention to itself, because wars and other major interventions tend to be reported on extensively. That said, people in the wealthier part of the world tolerate it, because they don't believe it will negatively impact them and might even benefit them.
In a just world, neither would be condoned.

You misunderstand the criticism.
I'd like the US to stop being evil, not to turn it's evil inwards and destroy itself.
I'd also like worst Korea to stop being evil.
How is it lucky for anyone (except the same people who've always benefited from the evil America does) for America's evil to turn inwards?
Wanting the US to live up to the values it claims to hold isn't hating the US or wanting Americans to suffer. Wanting the US to not interfere with other peoples (and people's) freedoms isn't the same as wanting Americans to also have their freedoms limited.

I'd like for that too. But at this point I don't think it'll ever happen without the help of some sort of outside force.
Since we all know I'm the nut who fancies himself as "spiritual", what if in some weird way Trump really was "chosen" to break down the old oppressive order and bring forth much needed change? Not saying I support that POS at all, but can anyone deny that the man has some seriously bizarre good luck? People have thrown impeachments, jail time, and even assassination attempts his way and it all bounces off him.
He's either something like the antichrist or perhaps being protected by unknown forces for an ultimate purpose.

God ran out of locusts, perhaps?
But seriously, I don't think there's anything spiritual about Trump's reign. He's a nasty, bitter person who appeals to some people's worst urges and apparently there's a lot more miserable, nasty people who are willing to give-in to their worst urges.
I don't think he's capable of making needed changes, in the same way giving into one's id entirely can't make them a better person, only a nastier, less mature version of themselves.
He's the moral equivalent of someone going on a bender because someone else hurt their feelings by finally calling them out on being rotten, instead of trying to make improvements to themselves.
Yes, the bender is funner, but self-improvement might make others less prone to causing one to have hurt feelings resulting from having one's sh***y behaviour called out in the first place.

Yeah the meme about the locusts is ironic but kinda rings true lol
Maybe Americans have beem fat and safe for too long and deserve to know what it's like to struggle and suffer a little like the countries aroung the world that we exploit and bully?

Just to circle back, this seems like projection.
I don't want Americans to suffer or feel that they deserve to suffer, but you seem to believe they deserve to suffer based on your comments since accusing me of wanting it.

I'm probably just being unstable again. I've had a really rough day but I probably shouldnt get into my personal life...
That said my opinions on my country are very complicated. The more time goes by the more ashamed I am of being a US citizen. I want the US to improve too, but I'm so disillusioned I doubt it'll ever happen. At least not in my lifetime.

Hopefully tomorrow goes better for you.
I understand your views towards the US are complicated, you've expressed so many times (both directly and indirectly).
I'm just not very fond of being accused of wanting people to suffer when I haven't said anything to suggest it. Generally I'm pretty transparent about when I believe specific people suffering might actually contribute positively to the outcomes I seek. I can often write suffering off as a cost of doing business, but even then it's not actively desired, only accepted as part of the cost of achieving a desirable goal. If suffering can be minimized while still achieving the same goal, I generally prefer that route that involves inflicting the least suffering possible.
