Some of the worst things I've ever seen happen to vulnerable people happened in courts in front of juries, lawyers trying to elicit an emotional response. So my response is, cynically - it is diseased, it will remain diseased.
I would prefer trials to be conducted more dispassionately. I am not sure the jury system serves the interests of vulnerable litigants in this sense. Maybe it could - maybe it is supposed to - but legal culture being what it is I think often it does not.
I would like justice to be more visible but that for me is about better reporting, ordinary people feeling like they have a stake.
