As a general rule calling a person 'plaid', or 'magenta', or 'polka dot', or 'black', or 'white', or whatever hue- whether they are that hue or not-is not 'racist'.

And everyone else is going to say 'no' as well, so lets skip ahead.

Imagine youve already gotten your 20 replies all saying 'no' as answers to your question.

So: what is your response to these responses?

Possibly.

Referring to a black person as white might make that person think you are dumb, trying to insult, or making a racist stupid comment.

Secondly, there are mixed race people, probably most people are mixed to some degree, and that person might look white but identify
as a different race.

It depends. When a Beijing cab driver calls me white and refuses to pick me up I find myself feeling racially insulted.

Why should it be offensive to say someone is black, white,brown, red, or even blue ( if a case ever occurs). I have seen some people of African ancestry who are white and Caucasians who are brown. When my marshmallow white brother laid out in the sun and hobbled inside burnt from head to toe I was correct in saying he was red. If a person is that sensitive about something mundane as skin color, then it would appear they view in rather racist terms.
