islam is a beautiful religion. great poetry, writings, artwork, and islamic people are VERY smart.

however, they think the angel gabriel is the holy spirit. i thought he was an angel, angels cant be "god"

so this doesnt make sence to me. if he was an angel, he was an angel. dont say he was the holy spirit please.

another thing i like about the koran is it hasnt gone through any translations and cant be for some reason. by comparrison the bible has gone through so much metomorphasism i dont know how anyone can take it as truth

i would like the comments to be on topic please, this isnt a debate between dogmas, thanks

so my question is, why do muslims believe the angel gabriel is the holy spirit?

This is the first I've heard of this.

The angels are all considered holy spirits (spirits that are holy). Islam does not have a concept of the Holy Spirit like Christianity does. In their ideas, God is God. Angels are angels, and Jesus and Mohammed were men that acted as prophets.

Well, Jews, Christians and Muslims all seem to recognized some pecking-order or hierarchy in the world of the angels. Gabriel is one of the top-dogs. Why? I don't know.

Oh, that is a site connected with the ideas of the late Rashad Khalifa. I actually chatted with him over the phone once or twice. He is an interesting fellow.

However, his attempt to support the validity of the Qur'an with his 19-based mathematical formula is, IMO, as ludicrous as are similar attempts to do the same with the biblical texts. They are self-fulfilling prophecies.

This is a pretty silly question.

It was Judas Iscariot who replaced Jesus on the cross, according to one apocryphal gospel, don't remember which.

Or else maybe Simon of Cyrene. I used to be a self professed muslim. Now I'm agnostic. I'm currently reading the Bible, and afterwards planning on re-reading the Quran. I can not picture me being christian or muslim though. But you never know.

I thought the Bahai's had cornered the 19 symmetry. They have 19 months of 19 days (with a 4 day period to make it 365).

They may have been the first (19th century). However, it was actually the Nubian Islamic Hebrews who initially wrote about this approach to studying the Qur'án. Either Khalifa adopted it from them or, as he claimed, came up with it on his own.
