Proposal would ban swearing in bars

Politicians in St. Charles, Illnois have planned to ban swearing, table-dancing, drinking contests, and loud music and in bars within the city, in fear that it would contribute to rowdy behavior. Now WTF are they thinking? First of all, Swearing and table-dancing cannot cause rowdiness. Secondly, the US government has more important things to worry about such as: curbing violence/homicide and obesity in America and stopping the Iraq war.

There have been the trans-fats bans (which will NEVER work), the NH balloon bans, the MASS anti-spanking law, and now a ban on swearing in pubs or bars or danceclubs?????? Why is our govt bossying us around and treating us like children???? When will they ever stop turning the USA into a miserable place???

dude in uh texas or california i dont remember wich if your a smoker and have kids or live in an apartment you cant even smoke in your own house!

Yet another sign we're becoming a police state. They did this in russia and germany too when their governments were in the process of transforming into totalitarian regimes, it's nanny-state politics.

Russia and Germany banned swearing in saloons? I never heard of this before.

During the 1920's, the USA actually banned drinking alcohol in saloons. Prohibition may have helped to curb drinking and cursing to a large extent. But, there are always people who consider themselves to be above the law.

Another sign Prohibition 2.0 is just around the corner.

In NYC a while back (I don't know if it ever got through) there was talk of banning smoking in your car if you have children with you. On top of banning things like trans-fats already in place.

I remember the way that the auto manufacturers screamed about seat belts and air bags - these were going to put them out of business!! The consumer doesn't want that!! Then they actually started putting them in, they found that most consumers DID want them. It became a selling point, and they were bragging in commercials that they were the first to have such and such type of seat belt, or they (beat the regulatory deadline and) were the first to put seat belts in all the cars they made.

Trans-fats bans will not be 100% effective when they are just in scattered cities or scattered states. But it will grow to significant restrictions nationwide, and eventually the food processors and restaurants will advertise that they don't use trans-fats.

I just saw a study that showed that industrially hydrogenated trans-fats are 2.5 to 10 times worse than saturated fats when it comes to clogging the arteries.

Yup, swearing in public, everywhere became a no smoking zone (even bars), various little nanny-state politics. As a matter of fact is was an old woman, a halucaust survivor that initially pointed this out to me.
