i guess since the government has a monopoly on the money system, its ok that they have total control over the economy? the reason i say this is because president bush is expected to give americans $800 for single people and $1600 for married couples to stimulate the economy. isnt this a disaster waiting to happen? i mean how can you just print money and give it away for free? if i remember correctly he did this back in 2001, exept i got $300. the government seems to think that the more poeple spend, the better the economy is. what do you think? isnt the federal reserve not a governemnt entity but charges the government and banks for the money it prints? this is all really confusing and i would like some answers please!

In the short term, sometimes a boost like that can jump-start an economy. In the long term, someone has to pay for it. Either by borrowing (followed by repayment with interest) or through inflation (money worth less). Or both.

I'm not sure that the current problems are small enough to jump over with a $800 a person 'grant' - but maybe I am wrong.

It's not that the Government has too much control over the economy, but that a couple of corrupt people got control of that power, and have been using it to redistribute the wealth, from the middle and lower classes to the nation's wealthiest few.

There are two certainties about the proposed "solution":
1. The money will have to be borrowed, so you younger people and your children will have to pay it back.
2. The money will eventually make its way into the hands of the wealthiest few.
So once again the President (and Congress) will be borrowing money from China and Japan, and throwing it at their rich friends.

As long as stupid Americans vote for a continuation of these policies, they will continue.

The disaster in the economy occurred when a bunch of people decided to take out loans that they couldn't pay for. This is only meant to keep the country from going into a recession.

Think of it as a business that only pays for their merchandises with the money their customers give them. Will it work in the end? Who knows. It kind of worked the first time Bush did it. Kind of. Will people use it for its intended purpose? I doubt it.

The Government has little control over the economy, the Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, in fact apart from Iran, Syria and maybe North Korea, the whole of the worlds monetary system is in the hands of private international bankers of the likes of the Rothschilds and the Rockerfellers/

Heres an interesting Google video you will have to copy and paste

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... &plindex=0

The guy was killed after revealing this, in it, he describes Rockerfellers plan to do away with money.
I wonder if the current situation will be used to help the world bankers quest for total economic control over all of us?

The stock market goes up when bad things happen to us workers (layoffs, static wages, etc).

So I decided to root for the stock markets to go down.

It's been great for my point-of-view lately!

Having to side scroll all the way over to read any posts on this thread is a real pain in the arse, this is why I am not contributing to it beyond this post unless it's reformatted somehow.

Too much control over the economy is btter than too little control. At least in the coutnries where the government may have too much control, the economy is quite stable, but if you look at a country like Zimbabwe, their inflation is over 4000%, and thats what you get when the government has no control over the country's economy.

That just brings up another issue, whether the government can effectively control the economy. In Zimbabwe, the reason why the government has no control is because they tried to implement too much control and because of their actions, the economy went berserk and is self-destructing. Really, what we can find is that the government having way too much control is a recipe for economic disaster, which explains the collapse of Russia, the backwardsness of India and China(only now are they catching up) and the economic failure of many 3rd world countries, including Zimbabwe. That 4000% inflation over there IS Mugabe's fault and a result of his attempts to exercise control, such hyperinflation can only happen if some printing press is putting out too much money, as that is extremely unnatural for an economy.

Like Nambo posted, the US government has very little control over the economy and only interferes when a particular market is doing very bad (ex: Chrysler/Dodge). The effects of these market failures would be disastrous to the US economy. Why do you think the US is trying to save people's asses over the Lending failure?

You better not hope the dollar crashes, for if it does...expect the world to end a little sooner than previously thought.
