I had a thought which made me laugh!
What if the reason people are for the moment unable to assign/attribute fixed and certain causes for aspergers/autism is that god is still thinking about it; hasn't decided yet what it is to be ?! ! 
All the things which we have not worked out yet, are loose ends which god hasn't got round to tieing up!!
He's still thinking about long distance space travel for instance. We'll hear about it when he's worked it out! 
? ( maybe he'll get some ideas from the characters who have taken on a life of their own!! )

I liked the way it made the hunt for "the cause" look!
Like people waiting for the denouement of a detective story. At the moment Hercule Poirot is expounding all the various possible theories. And the collection of baddies and goodies gathered together in the sitting room, and the readers, are sitting around breathless with suspense. It's a good show.
I keep smiling everytime i think of it like that.
