LIBERAL INTOLERANCE

Is the United States, the world's oldest democracy, a hotbed of "intolerance and political repression"?

Professor James L. Gibson of Washington University in St. Louis is a specialist in the processes of democratization who has investigated levels of intolerance in South Africa and Russia, as well as the United States.

In the latest issue of the American Journal of Political Science, Gibson comes to a shocking conclusion: Americans today feel less free than they did a half-century ago, during the McCarthy era.

Freedom? This 'freedom' we are stuck with is comparable to slavery. =_= Exploitation, sheeple, the media and the Establishment. I am close to leaving for Sweden. v_v

I think the conservatve radicals have dramtically changed America for the worse in the last 7 years. American leadership has supported illegal wire taps, kidnapping, and starting an illigitimate war. The extremism of the past 7 years is abhorrent.

yes even here somebody went whining to the Grand Poobah over a nick name I used for liberals, the guy has enough whining to contend with so I said I would refrain from being too much of a neocon and upsetting the little weenies.

I think you can probably express yourself on these issues without resorting to name-calling.

Liberal intolerance = political correctness, liberal guilt.

I answered "I don't", because of the so-called "Patriot Act" and the Bush admin's raping of the U.S.Constitution.

Approximately half of the citizens in this country would like him impeached, so it seems your attempt to spin the terminology into a mental disorder akin to Clinton Derangement Syndrome isn't working. Some people really do believe that the Constitution is worth protecting, and that torture and warantless wiretaps are bad, while the right to habeus corpus is good.

The mainstream Americans who perceive the most constraints on freedom of expression in the United States are Americans "sympathetic to religious fundamentalist and anti-abortion activists," Gibson tells me.

Yes, some fundamentalist Christians feel persecuted because they can't use public facilities to promote their religious views. They can't put up their religious symbols in public places, or use the classrooms to indoctrinate students with their religious beliefs. Others feel oppressed because they can't harass, bomb, and shut down all clinics that perform abortions.

They are free to worship as they please. They are free to speak against abortion. The fact that they feel constraints on their freedoms is a reflection of their own ideology of victimization.

I know.

Quote:
Study pits liberal brains against conservative brains ...

Researchers at New York University examined how a cue was processed in the anterior cingulate cortex of 43 college students. By monitoring brain activity, they were able to see differences in the way that self-described liberals and conservatives avoided a habitual -- but inappropriate -- response.

"Say you drive home from work the same way every day, but one day there's a detour and you need to override your autopilot," David Amodio, the researcher who carried out the study, tells the Chicago Tribune. "Most people function just fine. But there's a little variability in how sensitive people are to the cue that they need to change their current course."

In the end, the liberals proved to be more flexible.

yeah I'm real hurt considering the economic plight of the liberal support base compared to the wealth of the conservitives. Remove the inner city ghetto vote and dems would have no power base, they can only win an election to keep their mooch butts in power by buying the votes of ghetto dwellers. A study performed by the liberal media person is far from anything to wet your pants over when their is also no proof the POS didn't fudge the results.
