eco-patenting
Just a thought that needs some feedback.
I think that if this whole over-carboning of sorts needs to be fixed, the individuals can fix these. Think of the Tesla Roadster or the makeshift CO2-->O2 device on Apollo 13. If people can find ways to make more stuff more efficiently, the government should acknowledge that. If anyone can:
Improve consumer energy and CO2 efficiency on a product
AND
Improve the energy and CO2 efficiency on the manufacturing
They should get like a $5000-$10000 grant and rights to a patent attorney. Experts can sign up to view the proposals and make a decision if the inventor follows the pretenses above. If approved, concept artists and attorneys can patent and help flesh out the final stages of a product. The remaining moneys can go to a trade show. Also, vendors of these products must meet manufacturing requirements and somehow compromise if it is being outsourced. They need to elaborate on the lucrative rewards to spark interest.
Feedback please.

Funding the corporations? They do to an extent already but also have their own labs. Most of it is DOD, but there's also the research done in Sandia (like the recent efficiency improvements on laser pulsed hydrogen fusion which I read about in Nuts & Volts.)

Exactly. That makes a lot more sense than any of this nonsense about paying for their patent lawyers and other such arcane incentives. If you want to subsidize something, just do it outright and get it over with.

Sounds better. On that note, should/are colleges recruiting those who might be passionate, yet responsible enough to research alternative energies? (I say responsible b/c I know in some places where people like musicians advocate environmentalism and yet the fans trash concerts and the like.)
