I don't like them. 'Nuff said.

My parents are considering moving to one. Advice?

Mega churches are more proof of the church's corruption... Commercialising religion like it's wal mart.

Megachurches are loud and annoying, there's too many people to really make friends or have any social life outside of superficialities, every week there's a sermon about tithing (usually at the ones I've been to), and the leaders are usually more involved with internal politics and finances than they are with the congregation. Cell groups are the only good thing about them if they have them, also there is usually VBS and video games which are fun.

I recommend that if you are actually a Christian that you find a Church of your own to go to, that is if you are legally old enough to say no to your parents. If not, just go and make the best of it. Honor your parents and abide by their wishes if you care about doing what's right. If they let you go to another Church of your choice, good. If they let you have a say, that would be nice but it isn't required.

I hate megachurches based on my own experiences, but not all are alike I hope. See for yourself.

If the Churches in the area are that bad, study on your own. Up until last November I hadn't been going to Church for.. about a year and a half or so. Really that was due to my step-dad constantly arguing with the pastors and getting us kicked out. Now Poppy has agreed to leave us alone and not mess with our Church, so that's better. But anyway, I've found studying on my own is far superior than trying to pay attention to a Pastor for an hour or more, just due to reading being faster than vocalization (also, most of what Pastors say is fluff anyway.) Learn some Hebrew and Greek, study related history, etc. Pastors are so PC today, sometimes they're not worth listening to.

State college shouldn't be a problem. Philosophy usually is riddled with antichristian propaganda, but if you study a science or math you won't have a problem. Question and research everything for yourself, but on tests give the answers they want to hear.

If people are like sheep, like the Bible mentions, then a megachurch is a bunch of sheep under one roof, like those big livestock-raising farms. The type of farms that animal rights activists are always fighting to bring down.

It seems to be the kind of church where people visit, and they have a hard time leaving. That explains why there are so many of them. I was in a megachurch for a while, and I didn't like it, because the helpers are always too busy to reach anybody on a personal level. People are greeted assembly-line style, and processed, well, like livestock.

Your parents can do what they want to do. If they want to live their life in a barn, fed corn instead of grass, they can. If they like the feeling of walls, they can have it. You do what you want to do as well, if you are old enough to do your own thing, if it is the same or different from your parents.

we dont have them here, but they sound like a place for people to show off, be part of to be cool.. yuck.
