I'm aware that not all religious people oppose evolution as a valid theory, but for those that do, what are your thoughts on dinosaur fossils, for instance? How do you explain it?

On a side note, I'd just like to say that I'm not bashing beliefs here, I respect people who have religious beliefs that I do not share.

I have been an Atheist for a few years, mostly because the idea of a god just never made logical sense.

I'm not religious as such, but I do believe in a 'God'/'Creator'/'Conscious universe'/etc (whatever label you want to put on it). That doesn't mean I don't also believe in evolution, because I do... I don't really see how they can't sit side-by-side anyway? Why must it always be one or the other?

I fail to see how things like life in all its forms, or phi, or physics, can have just 'happened' by some gargantuan cosmic coincidence.

I'm mostly asking with the schools in the U.S who have taken evolution out of their curriculums and maintained creationism in mind. I wonder how they explain things such as fossil evidence (among the other widely accepted evidences for evolution over creationism) That just doesn't make sense to me.

Didn't realise they'd done that... weird. :?

I had a great time in evolution classes in high school. You'd inevitably end up with the handful of creationists piping up and challenging the teacher, and then the ensueing class debate, so I'd bring in 'Creation by Outside Intervention' theory just to stir the pot a little more... it's a bit of a fringe theory, but it makes enough sense to get away with bringing it up in a class like that and watching people on both sides react and team up against it. And then you can point out that hey, they're agreeing on something, so they can't be that different... and just wait for the collective "Ahhh..." ;)

This is probably the best website about the theory, if you're interested:

Sorry, the sources I heard on the news a while ago were incorrect, or I misinterpreted them.

Just to requote:

I wrote:

Apparently there's been no such thing, but there were some bills (most didn't pass or are pending) which want to add the teaching of creationism and ID as an alternative to Evolution taught in public schools in the US.

When I first heard of it on the news I was quite shocked. I must've misinterpreted it, sorry.

Here's a wiki link: Creation and evolution in public education

Sounds like an interesting theory.

I smell a gamer amidst us...

Why do I think that this discussion is going to come back to Creationists demanding proof for the nonexistence of God? Seriously, I think it's time we started slapping these idiots. They're just going to keep producing the same, tired argument from ignorance.

Well I don't believe in religion or evolution actually, but fossils don't prove much. All it proves is that they found some bones in the ground. How are we to factually conclude that those were bones of man in different stages of evolution?

More than anything I think the theory of evolution was given as a scientific justification or backbone for eugenics. This system is seen in all our "civilizations", the social ladder, capitalism ("survival of the fittest"), and even in communism where supreme power is concentrated in the government. It's all a eugenics program.

Remember too though eugenics was openly playing a major part in the NAZI ideology, whereas here it is a sub-conscious following of eugenics moreso. A great mish mash of different ideologies came together under the NAZI flag. And it was made compatible with the religious too, through sci-religious type of programming.... So religious folks also helped to push eugenics in Germany...
Here today, eugenics is silently or sub-consciously followed by most people in society, even if they will never consciously admit it. So that goes for both religious and scientific minded people.

We domesticate animals which is imposing eugenic behavior.

What do you define as Creationism? I don't believe in the biblical creation. I don't know how we got here. We're here. I attribute my life to the Lord because, that is the only thing that makes sense in this existence. Do I believe in ID? No, because Intelligent Design implies a being. It gives attributes to a being, and to me believing such things is equal to idolatry.

Someone I knew said that dinosours were fallen angels - ones that God casted out to live on earth - she firmly believed this.
