Indeed, and so it appears are a number of your compatriots, though I'd expect most would be hard pushed to find Scotland on a map. Likely, too, is that several are of the belief that the recent ban on hunting with hounds saw the demise of that much loved and traditional sport of haggis hunting.

The Scottish ARE independent. They could have a referendum anytime they cared to do so, make appeals to the UN to defend their secession, and altogether break from the UK. The thing is, though, the British government stopped behaving like arse-headed pigs a long time ago, and, nowadays, the Scottish are simply not interested enough in the idea to go through the tiresome process of seceding from a perfectly good and mutually beneficial union. It's just not in anyone's interests to do so. Far more trouble than it's worth. Besides, the world is well on its way to forming a unified supranational government. In a few decades, no one will care. It would be like New York City and its metropolitan area wanting to secede from New York State. Everyone would think it's weird, but hardly anybody would care.

Maybe if they go independent they can change over to the euro.. then they might be able to spend it south of the border.

The SNP is actually centre-left and the only thing they really have in common with the BNP is the similarity in the acronyms.

No it wouldn't. Scotland would get the money from the EU who are also subsidised by English taxpayers. Furthermore, after the unelected bureaucrats of Brussels had taken their cut, the burden would be somewhat greater.

Well, if you do get independence, you don't think we'd let you have the oil fields and what's left of the oil, do you? Oh, no! You'd be cap-in-hand to Brussels for grants so that sorry excuse of a parliament of yours could continue the fiscal profligacy that's currently subsidised by us. :wink:
