Okay, the religious right (who I don't just read about on the internet: I live in Tennessee and must deal with them in person) has this obsession with the idea that the apocalypse and the Second Coming are right around the corner, as epitomized by the bestselling
Left Behind book series/crap factory.
It is a common belief among these people that Israel is the catalyst for the rapture*, apocalypse, and Second Coming, as prophesized by the book of Revelations.
They also believe that everything leading up to the reestablishment of Israel was God's will because it started the events leading up to the rapture, which is God's ultimate will Right-wing Christians, as you may know, positively drool over Israel. They wuv wuv wuv Israel. However, they could care less about actual Jews. The Jews are a cog in the apocalypse machine to them. After the rapture, the unconverted Jews will burn along with everybody else.
This doesn't upset me because it's anti-semitism; there are more anti-semites in this world than you can shake a stick at (I told you I live in Tennessee

). This upsets me because it's SNEAKY anti-semitism. At least the Iranians and the Missourians come out and say what they mean. These apocalyptic theorists pretend to adore Jews while promoting a cosmology that says that they are doomed tools. It's not the most hateful load of BS the gentiles have ever come up with, but it's the most
condescending load of BS to come around in a long, long time.
