OOOh, we just wuv Israel, they say. But if you follow their cosmology, a very different story emerges.

1. the restoration of Israel is essential for the rapture to occur.

2. Everything leading to the restoration of Israel was God's will.

3. Israel exists now because of the Holocaust.

4. Dear Jewry,
Thanx so much for allowing God to kill 6,000,000 of your own horribly so that we could be raptured into heaven. U r the best tools ever!
XOXOXO,
Christianity.

Okay, the religious right (who I don't just read about on the internet: I live in Tennessee and must deal with them in person) has this obsession with the idea that the apocalypse and the Second Coming are right around the corner, as epitomized by the bestselling Left Behind book series/crap factory.

It is a common belief among these people that Israel is the catalyst for the rapture*, apocalypse, and Second Coming, as prophesized by the book of Revelations. They also believe that everything leading up to the reestablishment of Israel was God's will because it started the events leading up to the rapture, which is God's ultimate will Right-wing Christians, as you may know, positively drool over Israel. They wuv wuv wuv Israel. However, they could care less about actual Jews. The Jews are a cog in the apocalypse machine to them. After the rapture, the unconverted Jews will burn along with everybody else.

This doesn't upset me because it's anti-semitism; there are more anti-semites in this world than you can shake a stick at (I told you I live in Tennessee ). This upsets me because it's SNEAKY anti-semitism. At least the Iranians and the Missourians come out and say what they mean. These apocalyptic theorists pretend to adore Jews while promoting a cosmology that says that they are doomed tools. It's not the most hateful load of BS the gentiles have ever come up with, but it's the most condescending load of BS to come around in a long, long time.

that's something i don't get about the whole israel thing...how are they safer with israel than they would have been without it?

the area basically seems primed for something ugly to happen just by how polarized the area has gotten since the formation.

It's the same case of Christian Zionists (which includes Christians of different Christian sects, mostly Protestant sects). They love Israel just because it's mentioned in the bible , they support greatly the 'return' of the jews to their original homeland, they justify every massacre done by Israel, they believe that the Holocaust justifies all Zionist acts, they are the most supporters for the taxation to help Israel in US.....YET they believe that every no-Christian is no-reborn sinner and going to hell including the Jews themselves.

It makes you think...

^^......but it's not what Christianity says, in the true fundamental Christian faith every human is born as sinner (and so going to hell by default) and won't be saved from his sins till he admits the sacrifice of the Christ. In other term, every non-Christian came after Jesus Christ is going to hell how matter what.

Meanwhile the fundamentalists will be punished by being locked in a 'heaven' filled with other fundamentalists for all eternity!

Exactly. It's condescending. Kant said that people should never be viewed as means to an end, but rather as ends in themselves. If someone said, "I love you for all the material gain you bestow upon me but really do think you're going to burn in hell." to you, wouldn't you feel quite insulted?

The LAJ (limitless Auschwitz justification) is just a front, although Christian Zionists won't admit it to anyone, including themselves. Again, trace out their cosmology. Not considering to actual implications of one's belief system is a time-honored human tradition.

It's your causal logic that is twisted. I hardly know where to start, it's so flawed!

Christians aren't glad the Holocaust happened, anymore than Israelis are, even though they now have their state back.
That modern Israel came about as a result of the Holocaust doesn't validate the Holocaust in any way!
One can be glad for something good without being glad for something bad that led to it in a roundabout way.

Jesus gave a perfect analogy for this concept:
John 16:21:
Quote:
A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

Google the term "Dispensationalism" and you will find that the line of fundamentalist Christian thought that produced the Left Behind books only dates to the 19th century. Unfortunately, American fundamentalism embraces this "end times" theory/logic above almost anything else. It is particularly strong in the South (and I got the full brunt of it when I lived in North Carolina when I was eight). When I was growing up, the Antichrist was supposed to come out of the Soviet Union. Now "he" is supposed to come out of the European Union. Back in the mid-1970s I was taught that bar-codes and grocery scanners were the "mark of the beast."

ALL of this is reading more into the Bible than seems to be there to me, unless you view the books of Daniel and Revelations literally, and prognosticate the end of the world with them, something that the Bible itself, by the way, says to not do. By nature of how it was founded, Christianity in one respect can be viewed as Antisemitic, if only because the Jews rejected Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Be that as it may, many American fundamentalists are taught that the Jews are the "apple of God's eye" and anyone who tries to destroy Jewry will be destroyed themselves, by God. If you read books such as Corrie ten Boom's The Hiding Place, you will see the love that some conservative Christians have for God's chosen people, to the point of giving their lives for God's people.

Likewise, Christians are not glad FOR Christ's crufixion itself, but rather for His rising from the dead, as Paul explained that Christians have no hope if Jesus did not rise from the dead.

Christians are glad that they have Salvation, not that Jesus had to die a horrible death in order to obtain it.
