I found at least one thread with a similar question: (What Religion Are You?), so I changed the Poll slightly.

I use the word "sacred" in the Poll, but this could also mean spiritual or philosophical (as e.g. in buddhism or yoga).
I'm curious to see what people here believe or which life styles they practice in day to day life.

I practice yoga of a certain type, which means I do regular meditation and yogic exercises and try to help others as much as possible. I do use particular scriptures, but I don't subscribe to the idea that spiritual truth can only be found there and nowhere else.

Mine isn't listed on here. I do believe in a God, I am a Christian, but I also enjoy life as much as possible.

If you can't choose, you can go for the nearest match or you don't vote at all and explain why. I left out the "Other, namely..." on purpose. Categories are always a personal choice of the poll maker and have their limitations.

With the first choice, I mean that personal enjoyment is your main purpose in life and spiritual progress doesn't play a significant role in your life. If you are only a Christian in name but your main purpose in life is your own pleasure or well-being, then you could vote for the first possibility.

I read all books I can get if they concern such questions. I want to know everything that is known by the people who have discussions with me about that.

hmm. I went through different phases: Mortification, austerities, fundamentalism. I mainly moved from Qur'an, Vedas/Vedantas, and works from mystic saints.

Through all of this I realized how futile practice and rituals can be. I firmly believe that to reach God, a guide must be followed if not then the path is a lost one. However, I've learned that blindly following is equally as bad. Both are egoistical, the former because he is not willing to submit himself and the latter because he is not willing to accept other paths or even question. There are many paths which I believe are pointless, but if it makes a person respectable to others and moral I have nothing else against it.

Currently, I live somewhat blind to the world. It doesn't attract me as much as other people who worry about how they or others are going to make a living. I just immerse myself in scripture or direct my attention inwards.

But Christianity does allow pleasure or well-being.

So do all religions in theory (unfortunately the emphasisis is too often on"in theory")

I voted for the first option. None of the options really covers my own views, but I guess the first option is closest to my own view on life.

Yes, I know that. I don't think there is any religion or spiritual path that excludes well-being or having pleasure.
I had meant to say in the first option:
"I am a selfish hedonist and I don't believe in religion, spirituality or spiritual progress".
But that sounds a bit negative, so I softened the first bit.
The other six options don't exclude having a pleasurable life-style.

I use one particular sacred book: Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species.
