I don't think this thread will do much more than just annoy people unless you plan to suggest how the mechanics of your idea of reality work. Without that, you really don't have much of a thread. For example, how would cause and effect have logical consequences, for everything, for everyone, and have things consistently make sense based on that if we're all creating our own realities. If we could fly, we'd fly. If we could change our genetic structure by thought alone, people would be turning into other things at will - maybe not everyone but enough to prove the point. You'd also have tyrants and dictators just dissapearing, off of enough people really wanting them dead.

I'm rather philosophical so I'll give it a shot.

Lets start with the one thing that you know with absolute certainty and no one can convince you otherwise. Which is that you exist. You may be mistaken in the precise form of your existence, but the simple fact that you exist is indisputable to you and only you. But since I only need to convince you I do not need to prove your existence.

If you exist, then the thing you exist within must also exist. It may simply be an extension of yourself but it still must exist in some way. We call this thing in which you exist reality, it may only be a small piece of what existence really is (similar to how my thoughts are a tiny piece of reality) but it still is real.

I know it's a little confusing but you asked me a really deep question, the answers are never simple nor easy to explain.

What I don't understand about syllopism, how would a world - a world which even the best of us know less than a percent about, be entirely created by a person who - themselves - is always finding out things they didn't know. For syllopism to have any meat to it, it in and of itself would need concrete explanations of why everything we see doesn't exist. There would have to be better explanations for hardship and adversity as well that are a bit better than self hate and self massochism. There would have to be a reason why millions of things happen around you everyday that you could care less about - creating those things would be useless and wasted mental effort, let alone having those things make any remote sense on examination. Without those concrete explanations, its less a philosophy and more just an emotional self-centeredness; nothing more nothing less.

All of what we take as reality, might be an illusion, all of these could be a virtual world or a virtual universe, we could be just simulations running in a highly advanced computer program, we could be artificial sentient-beings not existing in a real 3D world, believing to be the real thing.

Free-will is something that we cannot prove and it is something that seem to exist for us because we don't know the outcome yet and we like to think we are the owners of our own destiny, but there is the possiblity that it doesn't actually exist, becoming another illusion.

Prove reality exists? Ok. First let us define reality, I choose definitions 3 from the American Heritage Dictionary to represent reality:

3. The totality of all things possessing actuality, existence, or essence.

Because for reality to not exist, there must not be anything that exists at all based upon our definition 3, all I must do is prove that one thing exists. Cogito ergo sum, I think therefore I am. I exist, therefore something exists, therefore reality of some form must exist. As for that which is outside of us? Well, I cannot prove that beyond an illusion, but do I have to? Let's say that it is an illusion, but one we cannot escape from, how is that different than reality?

As for solipsism, well, I cannot absolutely disprove solipsism, for to disprove it I would have to conclusively prove that another independent mind exists, or that something separate from my own mind exists. I can argue however, that solipsism isn't likely as techstepgenr8tion notes because the individual, who under a solipsist system would logically be omnipotent and omniscient displays neither attribute by lacking knowledge at various points, and being unable to relieve certain sufferings, and as well, as techstepgenr8tion notes, there is purposeless overdevelopment of the world. And it must be noted that to a great extent, the individual cannot assert knowledge over the workings of these things, which further supports the notion that this is separate from the individual.

shrodenger's cat proves reality exists....at least for me according to the Copenhagen Theory. Not entirely sure of the many world's theory...but none of these negate reality...just changes the dynamics and potential for manipulation later (teleportation transit here we come!!).

It's not a question of reality existing or not, it's a question of what part of reality can you know, understand and deal with. Each of us takes in whatever sense data we can gather and each of us creates our own reality out of it. There is enough congruence of each of our created realities so that we can cooperate and manage our existences fairly well but when we get into the fine intricacies of each individual creation of reality we find differences. Some can be resolved and some cannot.

I think, therefore I am...I think.

Ok, I know it was probably accidental, but yes, a character in a decade old game said the same thing.

I disagree on one thing - there are plenty of steady and persistent facts, for instance regarding the mechanics of human nature, that could be either accepted by everyone, denied by everyone, you could have a mix of both, and regardless of any of that - they are still very real, very constant, and it just becomes far more dangerous when people hide from those facts; as in people make extremely stupid choices in life when they don't understand the reasons for their own actions or the actions of others. That's what tends to make the world a worse place. Sure, psychopaths can have clarity, and they can choose to manipulate the world for the worse, that's another case in and of itself. All of this is why I would implore people to really seek truth and leave their emotional baggage out of it; I think most people would reach the same exact or at least roughly the same conclusions if people in fact put enough effort into actually having clarity.

I do agree though, the laws of physics are constant, the laws of matter are constant (and any inconsistencies in either that or physics are anomalies that we just don't have the mechanics of figured out yet - even inconsistency is consistent). The problem is, the human mind is *badly* broken and bent, enough that people can convince themselves of anything if they want to and unfortunately, do to our animal urges, its very difficult not to be full of s---; some people try to take the high road, many don't, and for even those who do - they aren't perfect either. On the other hand the world still turns, the sun still rises every morning, because as you mentioned regarding the world and our care for the environment; the world could care less about us, we care about it because we care about having a hospitable climate, having the planet Earth suddenly turn into Venus wouldn't be a problem for the earth itself, it would just be a huge problem for our own survival.
