Which world leader would you follow?

At one time in history, there were two world leaders locked in titanic struggle, their nations and allies in battle.

Leader one was broadly charismatic. He appealed to the working classes as much as the elites. He was a fitness advocate and not only was a vegetarian and exercised regularly, himself, but he ensured that the schools had fitness programs. He rejected the use of tobacco and his government restricted public smoking. He was a great advocate of social programs and created massive projects to ensure high levels of employment and prosperity for ordinary people.

Leader two was gruff and abrasive. He managed to alienate many people with his manner. When it came to fitness, he was a confirmed carnivore and quite tubby. There were no government mandates for exercise in his country. He was an avid smoker and did nothing to restrict the use of tobacco. Indeed, he was known for smoking wherever he was, in private or in public. He felt that social programs were not a good use of money and preferred lassaiz faire policies.

In the struggle between these two leaders, which one would you have supported?

The second one, of course! He's my kind of leader - opinionated, stubborn, utterly human, a social conservative, and not afraid to put people off for the right cause. A real winner.

This is one of those things where the leaders are certain historical leaders, correct? Are we going to find out who is what at some point? If not on this thread, then in a pm? Like, I think I've figured out one of them, but I am not sure about the other so far.

Oh no, definitely not that guy... And the tubby, hard drinking chain smoker bears absolutely no resemblance to a certain British Prime Minister of the 30s and 40s...

Eh, when my history teacher played this joke on us, there were three options.

War veteran, highly intelligent, and some other stuff you listed about Hitler.

Cripple who got rejected from law school and married his cousin. (FDR)

There's the one where it lists all the traits of a horrible person (drug addict, can't keep a job, etc) then says it's a pregnant woman. Should she abort her baby? The baby turns out to be Beethoven. The pro-life people love this one.

America is actually quite fascist as the 1940s definition of fascist went. Especially under George W. Bush, so much so that it's been speculated that Bush is simply taking Hitler's playbook and updating it. Prescott Bush, W's grandpa, actually had business dealings with Hitler. Indeed, many of America's elites were gaga over the Nazis and Hitler, and absolutely loathed FDR. Henry Ford did business with Germany well into WW2-FDR had to threaten to seize Ford Motor Company and throw Henry in jail for Henry to stop doing business with Adolf. Men who were captured at Bataan in the Philippines in 1942 reported later that the Japanese were driving brand new Ford trucks.

Rumors continue to circulate that in the early days of the war the American elites tried to overthrow FDR's government and ally the country with the Nazis. The best novel about a Nazi America is easily Philip Roth's The Plot Against America, which was published about three years ago. In the book, Charles Lindbergh defeats FDR in 1940 with the help of the American moneymen, then institutes a fascist government along the lines of Nazism in America, complete with forced "deportations" of Jews.

Since it's been shown subsequently that the narrower and more inbred a group of animals are, the more brittle their constitutions are, and the more susceptible to diseases they are, it's interesting to speculate what would have happened if the Nazis had succeeded in "cleansing" the planet of everybody except Nordics. It's likely that eventually we'd see a situation like in some of the polygamist Mormon offshoot cults where everybody is descended from a handful of people, with massive inbreeding leading to genetic disease epidemics so massive and destructive that the stability of their society is threatened.

The numbers of "defective" babies are growing so rapidly in these isolated cults that they are outstripping the leaders' ability to handle it. Increasing numbers of mothers are refusing to let the leaders "handle" (ie kill) their kids. The result is that fewer people are able to breed, which means fewer girls available for polygamist marriages, striking at the heart of their society.

It's possible that all things being equal that the cults will simply disintegrate from sharply decreased fertility rates, leading to so few new members that the cults can't sustain themselves. Maybe this is nature's way of stopping epidemics of inbreeding-simply shut off the species's fertility en masse. It's possible that autism is the same principle in action-too many humans, so forcibly destroy their ability to breed.

Well, as it has already been established Obama IS Hitler, I'd have to picked option number one.

Obama is NOT Hitler. If the comparison weren't so ridiculous it would be stupid.

Obama's a smoker, so that doesn't match up with person number 1.

BTW, Obama's blood pressure is 90/60, according to medical records he released to the press. How the hell is that possible? A middle-aged black man with a smoking habit who is involved in stressful political campaigns has a blood pressure of 90/60? How can that be? He also has obscenely low cholesterol.

How can that be? How can it be that people have biological differences? How can it be that we're not all interchangeable machines?

I assume you're being sarcastic? Um, what I meant was that that blood pressure is abnormally low. A young, healthy person might have a blood pressure around 110/70 at the low end. As blacks are known to have higher blood pressures than other races, and men are known to have higher b.p.s than women, and people's blood pressures tend to increase into middle age, and stress from something like a national campaign and smoking are both known to increase blood pressure, it is extremely surprising to see Obama with such a low blood pressure. 90/60 is the lowest blood pressure that is still considered to be within the healthy range. It wouldn't be at all surprising to see someone in Obama's situation at around 140/90.

But whatever. He's extremely healthy, and will probably live past 90 unless he gets cancer from smoking- he does have a family history of cancer.
