been following it. should be interesting since we have a vested interest in using georgia for our missile defense systems.

hopefully nothing more happens but this could turn into something big.

The Russkies have finally attacked US ground!! To arms countrymen! We shall repulse the invaders and bring the accursed war back onto them! We shall finally do what we should have done decades ago and quash the Russian menace forever. So, to arms, and leave nothing breathing!

We're a superpower, we do what we want. So, let us draft every man, woman and child, and then nuke the heck of the Russians, and then send every man, woman, and child in America over to clean up whatever happens to be left when Russia is a nuclear wasteland.

Russia are no holy guys by any means, but forgive me for saying I would much rather have Russia as superpower than the US, and would prefer to live under Russian rule rather than American rule.

Nothing against American people whatsoever, but politically it is a hypocrite country IMO and believe me, many Europeans share my view. Reading "we are a superpower, we can do what we want" would be funny when it is sarcastic, but if you meant that then I find that very worrying. The US is viewed by many Europeans as a country that should abstain from Europe, most Europeans lost faith in America. Thank you for your help during World War II (even though Russia alone would have done the job as well so in fact they deserve more credit), greatly appreciated, but me and many other people in Europe would like it if the US would stick to its own issues and no longer interfere in countries that are none of their business.

You're thinking of the wrong Georgia (or you're being ironic).

so you'd rather the country that actively kills dissenters.

Or the country that still applies capital punishment on frequent basis? That constantly interferes in places where they have no right to interfere? Where human rights are an illusion (capital punishment, Guantanamo, etc)?

Sorry, give me Russia anytime.

Nothing against Americans (I have several pals in the US), I got nothing against the people, but I admit to dislike the US politically.

killing reporters because they said something that the government doesn't like could easily be considered capital punishment. could even be considered a worse form because it's political and not sociological.

speaking of interfering....what's russia doing again?

also: gitmo's been ordered to be closed down by the supreme court...not exactly sure what'll be going on with that but it looks like it's being addressed. it's unacceptable that it happened but it looks like it's going to be kinda fixed.

Not to mention the fact that every crime that carries a death sentence in the USA also carries a death sentence in Russia, and Russia carries out its executions with more frequency and certainty than in the USA.

"Since 1996, Russia has instituted a moratorium on the death penalty in Russia, although capital punishment has not been abolished by law."

i seriously doubt they've stopped killing people. i trust ex-kgb as much as i trust ex-cia: not at all.

Russia has a moratorium on capital punishment for over 10 years, so no legal executions have taken place (if any hidden executions took place it is a disgrace obviously). Russia is a member of the council of Europe which strictly forbids capital punishment to all member states, hence why Belarus is the only country in Europe not eligible to enter the organisation as Belarus is the only European country where capital punishment exists.

And me a fascist? Why? For not liking American politics? Guess a lot of Europeans are fascists then, more and more Europeans have a negative view about the US politics (not about the US itself, just about its political structure and policies)

I am by no means a fascist, I am strongly leftist/socialist though. I guess in America this may be a word with a very negative undertone, but I cannot see what would be negative about that. I do not support any form of fascism, I do support socialism (note: not communism, that is a different animal alltogether)
