Sick Medical Care
Why are people in America so bloody stupid why don't they demand health care?? In Canada, the UK, and France they have universal health care how come we won't stand up and say "I want it too now you either authorize it or you will no longer represent our voice in the US senate". Why can't people figure out that they have been lied too, people in the countries mentioned above don't have to wait months and months for treatment no no no its the people in the US who have to wait for treatment. Is living a few years longer such a bad thing??? In the US we live shorter lives than people in Canada, the UK, and France mainly because our corrupt messed up health care system is set up so that we cannot get treatment the system is made so insurance companies can make profits at the expense of people's health and sometimes lives.
Why should the people in guantanamo bay get better treatment than me??? They have the blood of the innocent on their hand I do not, I mean WTF they are evil or so they say and they are getting the royal treatment.
In case anyone is wondering I just watched that movie Sicko.
Do you live in the US? If so, then perhaps a move is in order. If not, keep your stones where you are.
America has a greater distrust of the government and a slower system of change than other systems of government.
The people do not trust the government to do such a thing, such an initiative will find it difficult to get through, and most people do not have that as their only issue and instead care about other topics that they have to promote as well.
The issue is that our life-expectancies are not just a product of the health care system. In the US we live shorter lives because we have a lot more crap impacting our life expectancies.

Once all of the non-healthcare related deaths are taken into account, the US health care system actually performs better than that of other nations. Not only that, but a large part of the reason why the US performs poorly on international standards is not because of the health care itself, but rather due to the distribution of it. Now, I am not saying that the US system is perfect, we need some reform on the financing side in order to make health care more efficient, but the private system is not the ginormous evil that so many people think it is. Heck, part of the reason why there are problems is sometimes attributed to tax laws from WW2 that sponsored more employer based insurance, which tied worker insurance to employment, and also caused an over-subsidization of insurance making it a bigger part of the actual health care system and isolating people from some elements of the cost of health care. This results in "premium medicine", which are treatments and things of that nature that do not have large impacts on life-expectancy, high prices for their impact, and ultimately are just subjected to cost-control elements in other systems. This can include unnecessary x-rays, as I know that the UK and the US differ in their policies towards when a person should be X-rayed, with the US being the more liberal of the 2 nations. As well, it can also be argued that collective bargaining by other nations causes the US health care system to bear higher prices, the reason this is, is because additional drugs can be produced at marginal cost, however, the sunk costs for such drugs still has to be dealt with, because the US does not collectively bargain, this can cause the US to have to bear higher drug prices, an idea accepted by Brad deLong and Richard Schmalensee in a debate over political issues around 2004.
Right, and as one should remember about Michael Moore, or any other political documentary creator, such individuals are propagandists.

disagree
The people at guantanamo bay are held there without trial and there is no evidence that they have done anything wrong.
American's collectively have blood on there hands through the actions of their governments.

So it is their own fault for the situation they find themselves in.
I vote. But we Americans can't vote on issues - rather, we have to vote for lying people who sit in chairs and waste taxpayer's money while they prepare for their next campaign.

Well you have to vote for the least evil. Politicians are the same all over the world.
It might be a bit harsh what I said, but the buck has to stop somewhere. Americans live in a democratic country at the end of the day they choose their governments.
One problem Awesomelyglorious Michael Moore is right our system is a corrupt system that is made so insurance companies can make money by denying coverage and treatment. Most American's think oh well they get universal health care but they have to wait and wait and wait to see a doctor that is just not so its a lie.
If we have a socialist fire department, socialist library why not socialist health care??? It works, its cheaper for people in the long run and the population is much more healthy its a win win for everyone.
Are there any Canadian's, Cubans, Brits or French out there that can testify about how good the health care is in your country please.
Well, that does not meant that the major source of profit is denying coverage and treatment. I would still argue that the major gain of health insurance is from risk pooling.
Because health care is a technology based industry where adaptation to changing inputs and requested outputs, and variation in treatment would likely be desirable because on some level healthcare is a good that only has increased consumption as economic conditions improve and is not outside of variations in human desires. Fire departments are purely a catastrophe-based industry where the efficient economy of scale for a region can arguably be monopolistic(multiple fire departments in the same region can be argued as inefficient), and where externalities can be very high(if your neighbor's house burns, yours might go with it). Libraries already compete with a private book market, a major argument for public libraries also tends to be one of welfare as they increase the educational material available to the poor, and their selection compared to the average bookstore is poor compared to what the average person wants. The current system works, universalization is not the only solution to healthcare as I have already pointed out as I have already stated a believe in the perversity of how the current system is set up, not only that, but in looking at Europe, we ignore Singapore's model: http://econlog.econlib.org/archives/200 ... _heal.html , finally, you've completely ignored a claim of mine. Americans live longer if we ignore non-healthcare based reasons for death, meaning that we do have something to lose. So... yeah....
Don't mean anything if people can't get treatment. Also in the UK doctors are payed more if they can get their patients to live healthier, the technology used in pro universal health care countries is top notch.
I heard about a man who cut the tops of his ring finger and his middle finger, the hospital told him 12,000 to reattach his ring finger and 60,000 to reattach his middle finger. In Canada a man cut the tops of all his fingers he got them all reattached for free. Hmm which is fair the system where a man had to choose from one finger or the other or perhaps the one were they gut got care for all his fingers???? Of course the man who had to choose lived in the US and the man who got all his fingers fixed lived in Canada. So making a guy choose between one finger and the other is that your idea of a good health care system Awesomelyglorious???
Question a drug in the US costs 120 dollars the same thing costs .05 cents in Cuba how can this be??
