This question is partly based on both threads, the criterion of truth, and definition of evidence.

Are Truth and Fact the same?
or are they different things completely or perhaps partly?
if so, what are the difference between the two?
Would that depend on the field of study?

Is Truth something that should belong to philosophy while Fact should belong to science?

Would this thread be considered kinda controversial in the sense to be subjected to flames like the other threads recently? I hope it would get serious responses because it is actually a serious question.

Truth and fact cannot be different if the facts are true.

Truth and fact both belong to epistemology, which is a discipline of philosophy that the scientific method is a subset of.

Lots of ways you could argue they are different or the same depending on what definitions you give for each of them. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. Ecclesiastes 1:14

I'm a believer that there are no truths or facts, just variables that have a higher probability of being right.

Being the correct answer, or some other variant (I am lacking sleep). Though it really doesn't matter, so long as there is bacon.

Facts come from your head, while Truth comes from your gut...

To be true it must be factual, to be fact it must be truthfull. I cannot see how it can be any different than this

Unfortunately, that forms a circle.

Things can be true without being factual. A allegory can present truth in in a non-factual context. Works of fiction can reflect the truths of life while remaining fictional.

Picasso once remarked that an artist must lie to tell the truth. What do you do when you have something that is both true and false? Light is a particle. Light is a wave. Which?
Truth and falsity is a phenomenon of language and language is terribly sloppy.

truth

• noun (pl. truths /trooths, troo&ulth;z/) 1 the quality or state of being true. 2 (also the truth) that which is true as opposed to false. 3 a fact or belief that is accepted as true.

fact

• noun 1 a thing that is indisputably the case. 2 (facts) information used as evidence or as part of a report.

Language is not sloppy, our use of it may be.

One has only to look at the simple verb "to be" to discover how immensely sloppy language is. Linguistic tracts have been wildly misinterpreted for ages with often no resolutions at all possible. It is a total mess.

Ifit was not a pretty bad mess there would be no need for the Supreme Court to spend over 200 years to figure out what the Constitution really meant.
