I considered posting this in the science thread though I believe the topic will be more fruitful in respect to philosophy and religion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity

What are your thoughts in relation to the technological singularity?

It's an extremely long article. I only skimmed through it but the phrase that stuck out to me was it's the Rapture, for nerds. I can understand it that way.

Although Vinge is concerned with an intellectual singularity wherein machines outpace humans in intelligence and capability to absorb and utilize information, there is also a financial singularity approaching where machines will be able to replace humans more cheaply and efficiently in any form of production. The whole money system will collapse.

The important distinction is that it will actually happen. The Rapture will not.

A titanic artificial intellect would probably choose something cooler than a slain lamb to open the seventh seal.

A slain lamb? Seriously
