With the announcement of Sarah Palin as running mate made me wonder. We got news footage of her shooting some kind of assault rifle and were told that she is Pro-life and Pro-gun. Does this mean that it is only OK to kill someone after they have been born. If you are 'pro-life' can you be pro-gun. The only purpose of a gun is to kill. :?

'Pro-Life' is the popular euphemism for 'Anti-Abortion.'

I'm also 'Pro-Gun' and it means to me (and the Supreme court seems to agree) that private ownership of firearms for self-defense is permitted by the Constitution.

So, while it makes sense to make every effort to not make a victim of an innocent person, it also makes sense to provide Americans with the means to defend themselves from attack. Defend the unborn and defend ourselves. No conflict.

It would conflict if you defend yourself against a pregnant woman ;)

Well, it seems a contradiction and morally conflictive to a few, but then, a different moral view for others that makes sense for them, it doesn't for me however.

Think of this, one life you were protecting with this pro-life thing, then later, you end that same life with this other pro-gun thing.

Humanity itself is a contradiction anyway.

Well, I come from a country with heavy gun restrictions. The problem with abortions are various rights groups - political, religious, feminist, civil libertarians, childrens rights, medical professionals. If the child would be born, only to live in agony for half a day before dying, I'm for abortion. If the woman is simply "not ready", then, their body or not, they've a responsibility for another life. Eliminating the life for what seem to be frivolous reasons - adoption options are available. If the woman has been raped... That's a more complex issue. Not carelessness or immaturity by the woman, but rather having had her rights violated.
But the child is not at fault; there is the complexity. Two sets of rights.

As for firearms; the bad guys, gang members, bikeys, lunatics always get their hands on weapons. Illegal Chinese imports, mostly.
If someone is going to break the law and rob or murder, why would they have qualms about breaking gun control laws?
Personally, I don't like the idea of facing off against a guy with a shotgun robbing a store, whilst I'm unarmed! Once a store did, in fact, get robbed by a shotgun weilding nut not even five minutes after I walked out the door. Good thing I didn't shop around!

It's a moral contradiction if not a technical one. Like a rapist who's committed to rescuing stray animals.

Well, a fetus won't usually bludgeon you to death with a kitchen knife. If there is ever a case I think it would receive the death penalty, but only after it is born so as not to conflict with the anti-abortion laws.

Lethal injection, right?

Colored? I actually had unborn children in mind.

pro gun =/= pro death

if anything it means pro innocence. pro defense.
