Carefully watch out for a possibly autistic Buddhist Nun. I suspected that the repetition, orderliness and the philosophy of Buddhism suits autistics.

In countries without social security and little recognition of autism, it is likely that autistic people enter supportive religious orders and are found in greater numbers. The question therefore arises, how much influence have autistic people, even the residual autistic traits in humans, had on the ceremonies, religious practices and philosophy of religions. Some anthropologists suggest that religious rituals stem from mild OCD.

I would not be surprised if all of those nuns in the Middle Ages who were famous for doing Stations of the Cross/Hail Marys/rosaries for hours on end were on the autism spectrum/OCD.

Uta Frith, in her book Autism - Explaining the Enigma, describes "The Blessed Fools of Old Russia", IURODSTVO in Russian, meaning "Holy foolishness for Jesus Christ's sake".

For example; Pelagia Ivanovna Serebrenikova (1809-1884) collected old bricks and stones, and she threw them into a lake one by one, she then waded into the lake and retrieved every last stone, she did this ritual every day for 50 years. She was revered all across Russia as living saint.

"Seraphim's Seraphim: The life of Pelagia Ivanovna Serebrenikova, fool for Christ's Sake of the Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent"

I've never heard of Holy Foolishness. It sounds ... foolish.

if i was religious i would definatly go nuts, i see everything in black and white, because in alot of situations you JUST CANT be in the so called GRAY area of life,

yes, i do believe religion has got some connection with the autism spectrum, but i do believe people without aspergers has "tainted" the USE of religion

Tainted? How so?


people without aspergers can only focus on partial info at a time, when they mix in religion they tend to use religion as a smite tool, take George Bush for an example
