8 years more like. Most serve at least two terms, the exception is one.

Hey come over here I have some nits for you to pick  What is with the delay anyway? It should be immediate IMO. Of course bush can have some time to pack his bags and vacate the Whitehouse.

Ragtime it is this simple: He has an office (in Chicago), he is the newly elected president rather than incumbent so it is accurate to say The Office of The President Elect.

It usually does. How many presidents have never been criticized while in office? Zero.

Thoughtful criticism and evaluation of the president is our job as citizens. He works for us,
so we must constantly evaluate him and the job he's doing.

And when he was flying around the country in his campaign plane before the election, in a chair that said "President" on it?

And when he gave a campaign speech with a very close replica of the presidential seal?

And when he requested Germany to let him speak at the Brandenburg Gate, an honor usually reserved for actual presidents?
That shocked Chancellor Angela Merkel as being presumptuous of him, so he had to move his planned speech to a less high-profile historical site.

Those were all pure bling! Nothing wrong with bling. I'm just saying that's what it was.

So what? This is merely cosmetic tongue an cheek stuff he has every right to be proud, do you not think the republicans do their fair share of this in their boy's clubs. Compared to Dick Cheney's power obsession (which is incredible megalomania if you care to read up on it), I'd rather have someone who is actually going to be the president running the show. If anything Obama won because he was against tthe dirty tricks dept. which is really the domain of the Grand Old Party. Even McCain wouldn't cross over to the dark side, but he still tarnished his reputation by too much negative campaigning and he was unable to backtrack from in time.

I have disagreements with the specifics of your analysis, but I strongly support the sentiment represented in this post.

Furthermore, I believe that it was a lack of that same scrutiny that resulted in the abuses of power of the current administration.

A delay after election allows for a smoother transition. It is still uneasy and awkward (Obama being invited to summits instead of Bush, etc) but I can definitely see the value. Probably shouldn't be so long though...

So nothing. Let it go if it bothers you.

Positive thinking. My brother used to have a 'director's chair' that had 'director' stenciled on it. He went on to film school.

When you have some thoughtful criticism and evaluation, please start the thread. In the mean time, I don't think you'll find very many people to commiserate with here. May I suggest your nearest retirement home?

Being honest, if you really are going to be continuing this for four years tell me now so I can know whether or not to open these threads in the future since chances are it'll be the same BS over and over again and I really don't need to hear it.

quote:
"Despite Bells and Whistles, 'Office of President-Elect' Holds No Authority"

And yet everyone is so disgusted with Bush that people are already treating Obama like the president. There may be some of his own ego in this, but there is just as much (if not more) of the desperation of the American people and the rest of the world to move on and change the course of the nation.

I'm glad that Obama has come out of the gate running - there will be a smoother transition in January, and he will know exactly what has to be done from day one.
