This is what people think that Jesus really looked like:

This is the 'traditional' Jesus, but not the way that Jesus really looked like:

Well no one has any portraits or records of what he looked like. I'd say a guy living near the middle east who works as a laborer and is said to have worn simple clothing. Your guess is as good as mine.

I have feeling he wasn't a blonde though.

Yeah, and the Statue of Liberty is french...

Basically what I'm trying to get at is that cultures often try to absorb historical and cultural references from other cultures into their own culture. Christianity has historically been based largely in Europe, which led to the European image of Jesus.

Shroud of Turin is thought to be a fake, that radio carbon dating
estimates it was made in the middle ages, 1300 years after Christ

The top guy is ugly and the bottom guy is handsome. Coincidence?

Are you arguing that holiness is next to prettiness?

I could see that in favor of one who wants to believe something as divine and powerful but in real life, it doesn't always work that way. I mean look at Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa had her own kind of beauty. Holiness generally manifests as some kind of beauty. But that's not to say all that glitters is gold ...

Jesus is a fictional character, an archetype, the "hero" in an ancient ( greek, indian, and other) mythology which went planetary when mixed with Judaism and the Roman empire.

Therefore what he looks like depends on the director/designer/illustrator, or on your imagination like when you read a book.

other than that historically, the holy people have been more remarkably ugly than attractive is a notable trend. the only time it was otherwise was when the renaissance painters got involved and femmed up the holy figures and their appearance and started making them more "beautiful".

And you're a historical person yourself, aren't you? Actually it doesn't matter all that much.

Seriously, why should I listen to an atheist about this?

People that are genuinely more concerned with spreading their message (i.e. Jesus, Mother Theresa, even Gandhi or Buddha) are less concerned with how they look.
