Great! Now maybe we can come up with something better than runaway selfishness coupled with a desire to screw as many people as possible, just as long as you aren't friends with them, and sometimes even your friends. Time to rebuild society, folks. The coming wars will be no fun, but the world that emerges will be a better one. Clear out the dead brush and leave the strong standing, then the strong can make a better world. I can't wait!

i wouldn't start to worry until the market goes significantly below 8700 or so.

right now we're just in a move to returning to pre-bubble figures. not pretty...certainly offsetting...but it's a natural move and we shouldn't have allowed the bubble to begin with.

No ... you can't fight human nature! People are naturally selfish, greedy, covetous, ego-centric, narcistic, et cetera. This is why Communism doesn't work - even China has gone largely capitalistic.

On the one hand, a Socialist government seems to reduce personal initiative while simultaneously increasing taxation.

On the other hand, the current economic problems we're facing seem to be a result of selective enforcement of the Sorbanes-Oaxley Act.

On the gripping hand, there is a serious problem with the American economy, and something needs to be done to correct it.

Bailouts to corporations only serve to reward poor management decisions, and handouts ("Economic Incentives") are either spent on foreign goods or personal vices, if they are spent at all. Those checques we all received a few months ago did nothing to forestall the current economic crisis. If you still have a job two years from now, consider yourself lucky (or blessed, if you're a religionist).

Ok, let me explain this to you. The system is bad. It has to go. The only way for it to do that is for it to collapse. Yes, this will cause a lot of problems. But in the end, we'll come up with something better. Or we'll go extinct, which would be cool too. Economic hardship is the best way for people to see that the system doesn't have their best interests in mind. If it takes soup lines and riots for people to realize that capitalism has to be junked, fine, it's in their own best interest in the end. Get it now?

The current system is not likely to collapse at this point, there is no evidence that this will be as bad as the Great Depression, in fact, so far it hasn't been as bad as the crash in the 80s.

Not only that, but if we scrap the market system, what will we replace it with? The market system solves certain problems that are difficult to solve otherwise.

As I said you know nothing about communism, your stupid and simplistic response to my post demonstrates this. Without getting into a lengthy essay in an attempt to educate you understand that Karl Marx stated that for communism to work it needs an educated working class to carry it off. This has never happened Russia, Cuba, China and the rest were basically agrarian peasant revolts that were doomed from the start.
