From a Gay Friend in the US

Palin

"Yes, that winking b***h, lets not tolerate her".

Subj: Fw: ARE YOU TOLERATED...???

(When asked about same sex marriage , both participants said they didn't support gay marriage! Joe Biden went on to say that he supported equal rights, hospital visits, "spousal" healthcare coverage, and would honor legal documents i.e. "living wills" etc. While Sarah Palin said she is TOLERANT.)

I cannot believe a person, who may end up as vice president and "fearfully" President, would class an entire section of the American population as something to be TOLERATED.

I AM AN AMERICAN CITIZEN AND DESERVE THE SAME RIGHTS AND QUALITY OF LIFE AS EVERY OTHER AMERICAN, BLACK - WHITE - GAY - STRAIGHT - BI OR TRISEXUAL!! !

AND TO BE DESCRIBED AS SOMETHING TO BE "TOLERATED" DISGUSTS ME.

HOW DARE SHE???? (DAT BIIITCH)

I DO NOT NEED HER TOLERANCE, BUT DEMAND HER REPSECT AS AN EQUAL CITIZEN & HUMAN BEING!

[We need a multiparty state, as those third party candidates are the candidates who truly speak for the people. That's why the media won't allow them to participate in the debates. It will force the corporate controlled candidates to confront issues that are truly important to the people.] "

you know it's funny, some telemarketer political person called me the other night calling to sway me to the pro-side on the proposed gay marriage here. he sounded shocked that i said i was pro-gay marriage. i guess he probably doesn't hear that much from registered republicans.

tolerant of what? she's lying if she said she's tolerant of anything...unless she was talking about babies spawned from incestual rape.

and skafather84 ...my dad is also a registered republican who is pro-gay marriage :) nice to hear there are others.

probably the only two. :P

really, i'd rather marriage removed from government but if it's gonna be on the books then it's gonna be equal...not some award for not hitting "gay" in the lotto.

should be interesting if i get a call from the con side anytime soon. all the political calls i've gotten so far have interrupted me while i was playing force unleashed so i wasn't especially receptive to any of them, haha. the gay one just happened to catch me during downtime to where i could pause the game and answer him. i figure they can put up with the abuse/rudeness if they really want to sell their point.

i completely agree with you...this woman scares me. i could barely bring myself to mail in my voter's registration had it not been for hearing her unabashedly admitting to the horrible things she believes in (albeit she doesn't believe them to be horrible, nor an admittance)...quite stunning. so i mailed it in yesterday  .....not sure what difference my vote will make seeing as i live in Texas..but I'll give it a go anyhow..

it is disgusting to hear that homosexuals and others are something she describes as tolerable (something she is not) ....thankfully gay rights and things like marriage in particular are decided by the state (right?).....i'm tired of certain groups of people not being given the respect they never should have been denied in the first place..

Thats weird I am liberal, agnostic and I am against gay marriage, I feel they should call it a
civil union, marriage sort of implies a religious ceremony between a man and women.

not necessarily. the fed steps in whenever they feel like regardless of state laws. just look at california marijuana laws vs federal busts of local cannabis clubs.

/thinks state laws should trump federal laws except in the case of constitutional law and amendments.

Then why do marriages have to be registered with the government? If it is a purely religious ceremony, the government should have nothing to do with it - does the court house register who takes communion each sunday, or how often people go to confession?

Marriage has a religious aspect for religious people, but it is also a secular institution - many people get married who never go to church.

Personally, I don't care if it is called marriage or civil union as long as civil union has the same legal rights.

So a marriage between two men is wrong while one man marrying several women is OK? Sorry, but this typo asked for it :P

People can judge gay marriage in a religious way, the rules of religion may apply to a religious wedding. In my own house I decide the rules as well, if I found a club I set the rules myself. So no issues there.
When it comes to legal marriage, any banning of gay marriage is discrimination based on orientation, which as far as I am aware is against the US basic laws. The state should be run separated from religious laws, so legal marriage should be open to anyone.

The insurance companies are the main lobbyists. They don't want to have to deal with putting more partners on the policies free of charge.

Has anyone noticed that Biden also opposes gay marriage? During the debates, a brief discussion between Palin, Biden, and the moderator confirmed that Palin and Biden have essentially identical stances on homosexuals. They both support full legal rights for gay couples but not gay marriage. Or at least, that is what they claimed.

Saw the debate, but am not convinced they have the same position. Although both were old-fashioned in the sense of not wanting to allow 'gay marriage', Biden was emphatic about 'civil union' having the same legal rights (property ownership, inheritance, hospital visitation, etc) while Palin did not actually say that outright - she said she was in favor of 'contract rights' but wary of extending legal rights to gays as that might go closer and closer to redefining marriage. Also, while Biden tried to characterize Palin as agreeing with him on one aspect and Gwen asked if that was true, Palin restated that to say they agreed in opposing gay marriage.

What is the basis for definition of marriage?

People who want to get married are capable of doing so.

The law is an irrelevant abstraction.
The bible does not have instructions, and actually includes samesex and polygamy.

Marriage boils down to any sort of ritual followed by sex and a permanent relationship.
