Personally, I think the war on drugs is a scam. I think it is controlled by the CIA so they can profit off of it. But what do I know?

if you notice, the only people who fully support the war on drugs are the ones who are fully supported by the war on drugs.

that and the people who believe any load of garbage that the government tells them.

That's my point exactly.

Our society needs to get its s--- together, the idea that we'd even NEED to have a war on drugs is another way of saying that we need to government to be our parents or be parents on our behalf because we can't hack it. Personal responsibility - out the window.

My opinion is that Marijuana and some other entheogens should be totaly decriminalized. It is obvious to me at least that alcohol and nicotine are much worse for our society when not used in moderation. Heroin, Crack, Methamphetamines, etc.. should be more of a concern for us. Its like a pro vs. cons scenario. Marijuana has many benefits in relation to its detriments. The disadvantages of crack on the other hand far outweigh any benefits derived. The war on drugs is just stupid. It hinders us more than it helps us imo.

Totally agree. When people argue that marijuana is a 'gateway' - what's alcohol?

Hallucinogens on the other hand, they're funny - they can either greatly enhance someone's life or destroy it just by chemistry and personality; I think that's where illegality comes in handy at filtering who does and doesn't try something. Meth, crack, heroin though - no benefit.

But so what if drugs are bad for you? Why should they be illegal? There are many things bad for us that are still legal. The castor plant (where castor oil is derived) contains ricin which is a deadly war toxin. Ricin in pure form is VERY illegal, but the castor plant is perfectly legal and grows as a weed. Just because something is bad doesn't mean we need to make it illegal. Who is to tell us what we can and cannot put in our own bodies??

It adds some minimal threshold.

Wow, way to just completely dismiss anyone who disagrees with you as a mindless sheeple.

I voted that it's a failure, but that doesn't mean there don't exist well-intentioned people who support it. And they aren't all necessarily government lackeys or mindless drones.

nah, just more taking into account the milgram experiment on a larger scale.

I voted no, because I do not believe any real improvement can be seen since the war on durgs began in the 80's. However, I have no alternative solution or ideas to offer. I really do not want people trying to offer or sell drugs to my kids, but have no idea how to stop them. I do have to give a thumbs up to schools for trying to educate our kids from the age of kindergarten. When my kids were that young, it bothered me. I thought...my kids would not even know what drugs are, if it were not for the school. But now that they are teens, I think it may have helped. They have been programed to believe it is 'bad' all their life, in the home as well as school. Thankfully they still maintain this belief. I can only hope it stays that way.

I agree.

But yeah. I think it's a complete and utter failure, not unlike our government's other "wars" on nigh-intangible concepts.

For me it meant that when I was in my late teens and early 20's, after having years of Just Say No and D.A.R.E., that when I did all the stuff that I did - smoked, tripped, rolled, etc. I feared and respected the substance which helped me keep it in perspective and kept it limited to where it was actually helpful in my life in terms of aiding me in making epiphanies and being able to see my life from an outside paradigm anytime I did it. When people don't have a healthy fear and respect for what the stuff can do, especially with high addictive proclivity, results can be catastrophic (and very luckily my proclivity is practically zero).

D.A.R.E. is to keep a kid off drugs and they're right - *kids* especially should not be doing them.

The War on Drugs is a moral monstrosity and a practical disaster.
