no, it would just start up again anyway, since it's a basic human thing.

I voted no, because I think many people have distorted views of religion.

For example, many people think Christians are bigoted, intolerant prudes. In reality, "true" Christians would have a mindset similar to the hippies (both groups have the message of peace and love).

Given that I am Christian, no I would not wish to eradicate religion. Your question assumes that religion is false, which you have not demonstrated to be the case.

Atheists start wars too. Stalin killed a ton of people. Napoleon was scornful of religion for almost his entire life. The violence and needless wars weren't because of religion, they were because of flawed human nature and greed. You can't just go around blaming religion for everything bad that people have ever done.

Yeah it was a mistake putting my views, so they've gone. I'm more interested in hearing other peoples' opinions rather than their take on my own, often poor opinions!

I am considering offering someone marijuana in church, just to see what would happen.

(I don't smoke the reefer).

If I did that here, I would get this reply:

(Haram = sinful, Halal = Permissible, Sunnat = Good acts of the prophet, rewarding for one to perform)

I am not sure... on the one hand, there's so much bad things, which extremism causes, OTOH, I see that religion in its moderate form can help people. Like Khan_Sama. Can't you have a switch that makes us all Unitarian Universalists?

I would flip the switch that erases hateful and destructive religious beliefs, but which has no effect on the religious beliefs that encourage people to improve themselves and help others.

I voted yes, but not by magically wiping beliefs from people's minds, but by exposing all the evidence that makes religious books and doctrines untrustworthy guides.

Most religion seems to be based upon the principles of spirituality. Classical congregation within the walls of a "brick and morter" church seem to be a way to disseminate information as well as one method to finance operations through the tithe. Congregating also provides a sense of identity and inclusion. The internet has accelerated the dissemination, propagation, replication, assimilation, etc. of information. It has also created more efficient ways of funding. I have always viewed the world its self as the church, temple, mosque, synagogue, etc, though my understanding of these words may be limited. If I were in the "Make a wish" thread, I would wish that people would break their bonds with religious dogma and begin to believe or have faith in themselves. As I have said before, I believe that we are all god because we are all of the Universe. The internet has enabled us to share our beliefs and debate the positives and negative within a neutral ambiance. I for one will allow the internet and my inner self be the gateway to higher spiritual pursuits. Would it be great if we could focus on what we share in common versus what we differentiate upon? Though differentiation is important also. Differentiation should not be an excuse for murder. I prefer that not to be the last word in my statements so I will attempt to digress further. We have it within our technological ability to create world peace very soon. Here are some of the key factors from one perspective that will enable us to achieve this. Spiritual bonds - As in the sense of shared aspirations for the body of humanity. Energy generation - Enough to support at least 6 billion people. Virtual communication network a.k.a. virtual reality - This will assist us in refining our shared visions and act as a guide stone to the future of our species. Automated agricultural systems - Self explanatory, this could be refined in virtual reality or alterspace or the metaverse or what you would prefer to call it. Though I do not contend to have the definitive answer for this, it seems to be a reasonable strategy for achieving this. Spirituality can allow us to work together toward energy refinement and inversely an increase in energy will help substantiate a more positive emotionaly balanced populace. This increase in energy will allow us to further develop our agriculture so as we may share our harvest among one another. Alterspace will allow us to reduce toxic effects upon this planet because people will be able to travel without having to actualy displace their physical persona. Over time we should be able to colonize other planets, solar systems, galaxies, etc. "To infinity and beyond" - Buzz Lightyear
