Atheist or Not?

Most of the people I know who have Aspergers are Atheists, and I just wanted to see if that was just a coincidence or if most are.
However, the only person I know definitely has it and I know offline is Catholic(however, I personally think he's Agnostic), but that's sort of bound to happen when I go to a Catholic school.
Also, I'm Atheist but my parents insist I'm Catholic.
Also, the reason I'm not asking for other religions is because I honestly think if you follow a religion it's down to what your parents have taught you to believe, not because you chose it or anything...(I know, very controversial).

I was a Buddhist for awhile, then *chose* to come back to the church. No one can say I'm just following what my parents taught me.

My parents also insist I'm Catholic, although it doesn't really bother me that much. I'd be stunned if they knew what Atheism even is. And I agree most people tend to just go with the flow, and not really question their beliefs, most of course just continuing what they were taught as a child from their parents. However, that's not true for all of those that follow religion, but I'd argue it for the majority. There are other ways too to come to a conclusion on the universe's origins and other things. The approach I take is a more rational Agnostic/Atheist approach which I feel overall makes the most sense all things considered.

Obviously it doesn't apply for everyone, but the majority.

You are in the minority as am I. I was brought up Church of England but am now Buddhist/Atheist. Most people don't care enough about the nature of ultimate reality or whatever words you wish to use, to enquire into different religions and philosophies. So kids born Christians tend to stay that way and the same for Muslims etc. Each believing theirs is the one true religion.

Grown up as Catholic, but the trouble started when I asked, if god guides and protects the church, why it has a lighting rod? Further Trouble raised, when I speculated that the Body of Christ would be transformed later into s**t and how we can flush the same thing through the toilet, which we were supposed to handle prior eating with such care? And when when the "Body of Christ" transforms itself back form something sacred to some ordinary s**t?

I'm Presbyterian. I went through the normal angsty adolescent atheist phase before accepting Christianity.

I'm Baptist, but I think I have different views of the church than most people. I actually hate when preachers and pastors preach the word of God based on their relationships, and I definately hate it when they say "you should read your Bible everyday and get a relationship with Christ." I mean, the whole relationship thing when you can't meet someone on the phone or directly is completely stupid to me. Sometimes I wonder how they came up with this type of neurotypical hogwash. I wish people can teach it to me intellectually (e.g. put some points in history to how it realtes to today's time or debate about the theme with other subjects) or write it directly to me or write a story to represent the times. But I guess it would never happen since religion is more of a neurotypical thing than an aspie thing.

I was raised Catholic but I see it as more of my heritage than my belief system. I don't assume there is any God, afterlife, or any of that. I think it may be possible but I just don't know. Religion can be very beautiful and inspiring. It brings joy and meaning to the lives of hundreds of millions, if not billions of people in the world. I dont see why so many atheists are so insistent on taking it away from them. The atheist movement is becoming increasingly dogmatic, organized, and profitable. Sound familiar?

I don't understand why atheists are so bothered by other people's beliefs. Why get so upset over something that doesn't affect you? If you don't like religion, you need not participate. Once you get all evangelical about your atheism, you're essentially becoming what you hate.

I voted "no" to being an atheist. I was an atheist for many years, though, but God corrected that. Now I am a Christian.

While I do have a spiritual side, I am far more atheist then I am religious.
