Considering the extent of human viciousness, stupidity, and irrational destruction of the environment I can well understand why humans are thought to have descended from apes. Hopefully, if the Earth remains habitable, a new species exhibiting kindness and intelligence will arise from them.

The concept that Aspies constitute a new species will be confirmed when all mating between Aspies and other humans prove sterile. A quick look at the discussions on religion in this site will discourage any fantasies about Aspie superiority.

If humans were indistinguishable from other primates at one time in the past, during the course of evolution we evolved into the humans we are today.
Therefore, does that mean that when we exhibited more animal traits, it wouldn't have been unethical to kill that entire species based on the popular opinion of today regarding animal welfare.

We don't allow animals to have rights, but back then we were like they are today. If you believe in evolution, then you have to admit that evolution is still taking place. Is it possible that chimps, orangutans, and gorillas can evolve in a similar way that we have?

Who knows, it would take millions of years and just because we are related does not necessarily mean that the other great apes will have the same genetic alterations that we underwent. Anyhow as I said it would take millions of years and the way we are screwing with the planet the other great apes have only got a few decades

For the most part, I feel that evolution still occurs but won't lead anywhere since we've effectively removed Natural Selection in so many species. Though in others, we've accelerated evolution, especially when it comes to microorganisms and our abuse of antibiotics.

There are talks about giving chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans human rights as we are all members of the biological family Hominidae.

they could evolve in a similar way to us but it would take millions of years.. who knows in millions of years we may evolve to become more like them again *shrugs*

The Spaniards have already done so.

On that definition there are probably millions of human subspecies and what does that get you?
