I'm watching it live on ABC News. He has Abraham Lincoln's bible out. It hasn't been out of the white house since Abraham Lincoln's inaugaration.

Let me ask isn't it a coincidence that yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and today is Obama's inaugaration?

Coincidence? :o

Why is he using Abraham Lincoln's bible?

It's not a coincidence at all. Inauguration day has been on January 20th, since 1933. The 20th amendment changed the date of when the terms would start. Before the terms didn't start until like march.

I think our postman was late delivering our mail at my workplace because he stopped to watch the inauguration. Also, I have a stomach ache so bad I wish I were dead, but I had to wait on the postman anyway over at the postal subcenter. Whatever.

Anyone else get practically incapacitated by taking Ginkgo Biloba? They warn side effects include "upset stomach". Well, we're going on 36 hours now, and my stomach is still severely, severely upset, so I'd say that warning needs a tweak. We're talking when I move my limbs, my stomach hurts worse. My limbs are all I can move; my torso is paralized by pain.

No TV so I'm at a Chinese restaurant right now, online, viewing clips and slide shows.

After the last 8 years, after the popularity of pundits and candidates and endlessly e-mailed rhetoric that spew whatever at us trusting that we'll never take a second to fact-check them, after 8 years of playing on our fear and mob-mentality, I can hardly believe that we've just sworn in as President a man who went to an Ivy league school to learn, not just to party, a politician with (seemingly at least) more integrity than most politicians we've seen of late, a man who is thoughtful and intelligent and has worked his way up and (seemingly at least) is more you-you-you than me-me-me.

And, (seemingly at least), a man who appears to give a crap what we little people think.
www.change.gov

And, a man whose nominee for Justice Department, agreeing with the precedent we've set up through Vietnam, in accordance with the treaty Ronald Regan first signed (aren't the Republicans supposed to like him and agree with him?) recently stated quite plainly that as an overall practice torture does not work, waterboarding is torture, and America must not engage in torture. (See how easy that was to say?)

And, as an added bonus, he is a charismatic personality who people can get genuinely excited about.

And, as an extra added bonus, he has shown that America is finally evolved enough to elect someone in spite of his not being white and having a foreign-sounding name.

*President* Barack, HUSSEIN Obama. (Yes, HUSSEIN. It's a Hebrew name. Deal).

This daughter of activists wasn't sure she'd ever see it in her lifetime!

One he is not a fascist at all, man because that is a lie made by big corporations who get big tax cuts under Bush and Republican Party.

His Inaugural Address was one of the greatest we have in this nation.

Most sources I see cite it as Arabic rather than Hebrew, diminutive of Hassan, coming from Arabic Hasuna meaning "good", "beautiful", &c. http://wiki.name.com/en/Hussein
Is there a Hebrew version of it?

He is not going to because of the Supreme Court has made a ruling on Guantanamo Bay

Quote:
June 12 2008 Supreme Court ruling

On June 12, 2008, the United States Supreme Court ruled in Boumediene v. Bush that the Guantanamo captives were entitled to the protection of the United States Constitution.[155][156][157][158] Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the majority, described the SCR Tribunals as "an inadequate substitute for habeas corpus" although "both the DTA and the SCRT process remain intact."[159]

On 21 October 2008 US District Court Judge Richard J. Leon ordered the release of the five Algerians held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the continued detention of a sixth, Belkacem Bensayah. The Court ruled: "To allow enemy combatancy to rest on so thin a reed would be inconsistent with this court's obligation; the court must and will grant their petitions and order their release. This is a unique case. Few if any others will be factually like it. Nobody should be lulled into a false sense that all of the... cases will look like this one."[160][161][162][163]

What worries me most about Obama is his general stated drive towards conciliation. The reactionary Republicans (which means the most of them) are lackeys of the most socially corrosive and greedy component of the USA and to compromise with them is what the spineless Democrats have been doing in the name of unity (and probably because most of them are servants of the same forces).
You do not compromise with corruption, with criminality, with incompetence, with liars, with brutality, with violators of basic constitutional rights, with insensitivity to the weak, the poor, the ill, the deprived. That worries me.
