Quote:
"Bananas: The Atheist's Worst Nightmare" is a particular variant of an argument from design which describes how the banana's features reveal its true cosmic origins. The argument traces back to Ray Comfort and former Growing Pains actor Kirk Cameron's evangelical Christian talk show, and it is summed up as follows:

Note that the banana:

1 Is shaped for human hand
2 Has non-slip surface
3 Has outward indicators of inward content:

Green-too early,
Yellow-just right,
Black-too late.

4 Has a tab for removal of wrapper
5 Is perforated on wrapper
6 Bio-degradable wrapper
7 Is shaped for human mouth
8 Has a point at top for ease of entry
9 Is pleasing to taste buds
10 Is curved towards the face to make eating process easy

To say that the banana happened by accident is even more unintelligent than to say that no one designed the Coca Cola can.

Ahh the simplistic and stupid would be so much funnier if people did not believe it.

That is what struck me when I read the article. I immediately thought this is a parody, a bit of fun, but no there are people who apparently use this to support intelligent design. 8O

It loses its humour value when you realise some people actually take it seriously.

Nah. God must have had an off day, or maybe a sense of humour? Rolling around in heaven, laughing his head off at people messing about trying to get into it. As for coconuts well - he sure had fun there. All that nice tender coconut flesh - but put it into a hard wooden safe.

it also stinks so bad that it's forbidden to eat one in public.

Quote:
its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock.

a true gift from the creator.

Seriously? The banana-as-proof-of-ID isn't a joke?

Not sure I can dumb myself down enough to bring myself to point out the flaws in that one. But offering the pineapple as counter-evidence was a pretty good start.

Actually, I think the banana based support of ID is serious, however, I think that the banana based support of ID is also commonly rejected as not knowing a lot of facts about the history of the banana.

I had seen this before, and thought it was a parody, or else a joke. That's what I get for expecting so much out of the ID crowd.

Study of human anatomy reveal several features that make absolutely zero sense in light of creationism. As would an examination of plant physiology and photorespiration. The most damning evidence against creation and for evolution, though, comes at the molecular level where most people aren't capable of comprehending it anyways.

I believe in God, but I really don't see how the banana argument could possibly prove a point for creationism.

Seriously, how dumb you creationists can be? so far I guess.

Quote:
In a wild banana, note the black, rock-hard seeds. Since wild bananas are inedible by humans and contain such large seeds, this fact would would appear to be contrary to the belief that bananas were designed with humans in mind. Seedless bananas, while preferred by humans, are useless to the banana plant, which, being sterile, has to be artificially cultivated by vegetative cloning (i.e. taking cuttings).

Cultivated bananas were not designed by cosmic intervention, but were produced by humans using artificial selection. Bananas are one of the first fruits domesticated and cultivated by human beings a little more than 7,000 years ago. Humans have bred bananas selectively for smaller seeds and a tastier banana, in much the same way we have cultivated seedless grapes and watermelons.

Yeah, well, there was a video of this on Godtube, and it, along with other videos, was commented upon by Wired Magazine, showing the problems.

I think this video was removed from Godtube though because of all of the mockery.

I have no idea what you mean. Though I do have a strange fascination watching a woman eat a banana.

The banana one is gone, even from the Wired article, but at least the ones about sci-ence and the lame parody of "I like big butts" made me laugh.

The wired article used links, and they removed the video from Godtube itself, so the link would now go nowhere anyway.
