I'm thinking of starting asceticism, training my body to resist harsh weather, starvation and deprivation. Any thoughts people?

Yes, I have a thought: I think that is a really stupid idea.

Only a question. Why do you want to be a masochist? Do you think it will increase your chances of survival? If so, you are in error. The life expectancy of people who live in starvation, bad weather and deprivation have lesser life expectancies than us folk who live in prosperity and comfort.

No, no, no, good theory, but I posted after his post already existed.

Consider the middle way. Harsh asceticism is destructive, but too much prosperity and comfort leads to heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and the other diseases that are prevalent today.

Not if one exercises regularly, eats reasonably and avoids bad habits like smoking and too much booze.

Regular exercise is masochistic. At very least, it makes me sweat and feel out of breath and my muscles feel heavy and tired, which is not comfortable ;)

I think you are thinking of the middle way, even if I took issue with 'prosperity and comfort' in the original post.

Getting adequate protein and vitamins and minerals is a good thing. Restricting total calories (even to levels that are not generally thought of as 'reasonable') is healthy.
