Actually, I more just did not feel like taking your topic seriously and instead saw a chance to throw in a HHGttG allusion. To answer your original question: I don't know because that's never happened to me. I suspect that I would, after some internal struggle, adopt the new ideas. But to counter your admonition, "ideas stem more from other's ideology than independent thought" I say that there is much benefit to standing on the shoulders of giants and little to gain by reinventing the wheel.
