If someone came along with an idea that could possibly destroy your world view, would you be able to conduct yourself like a proper scientist and dismantle your state of mind in accordance with new ideas that create a possible new way of thinking in order to fathom new possibilities?

What if an invisible pink unicorn awakened you? Would you set aside all former views and accept your own thoughts? How self reliant are you really? If you saw a pink unicorn with your own eyes, how trustworthy is your own mind in light of all that is considered factual in our materialistic view point of science?

Galileo was a maverick, not a follower. Do you follow your own ideas, or those that paved the way before you? People once believed that the world was the center on the universe. Now people believe that humans are the most intelligent life forms in the universe. Human hubris once sprang from monotheism, now it springs from atheism. I think it's a pattern that we need to learn from...

Of course humans aren't the most intelligent species in the universe. We're only the third smartest on Earth, after all.

The halfway between "no" and the second to last: the idea that people are the smartest in the universe is much too dreary so we make up myths of aliens to get by in this boring world as orphans.

And the ability to commit oneself fully to the consequences of one's world view at some age requires a loss of the suppleness of a child's mind. Irrational adherence takes over at some point so that our energies may be directed at other things.

Third smartest on earth? Orwell, I respect your opinion so please tell me the first two.
I think bottle nose dolphins are the smartest. Elephants may come after humans.
Wolves to me have the most important aspects of intelligence though.

I believe humans descended from a species that sought destruction as a form of survival.
That may explain why we continuously seek to destroy everything. Nothing lasts for humans and we seem to wish to destroy that which is good as a desperate grasp to cling to it.
That will bring about our ultimate demise if we do not recognize it. The way we recognize our ego during it's death is like a metaphor for our "evil knowledge"of the world and most importantly, knowledge of oneself.

That wasn't a serious response, it was a literary allusion largely for the benefit of a certain Australian Marxist who hangs around here.

Orwell, I asked specifically for individual opinions. You have proved my point that the search for individual opinions is unlikely seeing that ideas stem more from other's ideology than independent thought. Too bad so sad...

Actually, I more just did not feel like taking your topic seriously and instead saw a chance to throw in a HHGttG allusion. To answer your original question: I don't know because that's never happened to me. I suspect that I would, after some internal struggle, adopt the new ideas. But to counter your admonition, "ideas stem more from other's ideology than independent thought" I say that there is much benefit to standing on the shoulders of giants and little to gain by reinventing the wheel. (Guess what? I didn't originate either of those sayings :P)

My world view? Well, it is quite obvious, women are subhuman monsters. After all, I am a man, and I am perfect, therefore a non-male brain is further from perfection than a male brain.

No opinion is an opinion too.

That's a question I'm not going to bother with.

If I knew the answer, what would it mean to me? It would mean nothing.

From my perspective: What a useless, meaningless matter to ponder upon.

So then why ask that question.

that was a silly, trivial and biased set of alternatives. It is not a serious poll.
