I'm more moderate than a conservative but I'd say I agree more with the paleocons than with the neocons. Are you a neocon? Here are a few ways to tell:

If you think that the "war on terror" is actually a war on terror...you might be a neocon.

If you think Obama caused the recession (even though it's true he's making it worse)...you might be a neocon.

If you are a strong supporter of Israel, yet you think Jews burn in hell unless they accept Jesus...you might be a neocon.

If you care more about America's foreign policies than our domestic policies...you might be a neocon.

If you think we are winning the war on drugs and that the purpose of the war on drugs is to keep us safe...you might be a neocon.

If you think Fox News is truly "fair and balanced" (or more so than other news stations)...you might be a neocon.

And finally: If you think George W was a great president during his 8 year regime...you are most certainly a neocon.

I hope this list helped. And if it turns out that you are a neocon, I suggest a lobotomy.

I guess I'm a neocon, then.

Obviously if you subscribe to the opinions indicated a lobotomy would be superfluous.

I would have to disagree with your analysis, the members of this group who came out of the school of Leo Strauss know full well that they are manipulating the truth, the whole point of maintaining the distrust of the USSR during the cold war was an attempt to promote patriotism and combat individualistic tendencies. To suggest that they believe in their own propaganda is naive, they have and continue to pursue a definite programme of misinformation for what they see as the 'better good'. The likes of Wolfowitz, Perle, and Rumsfeld and the rest or their cabale know exactly what they are doing, after all they have been doing this for the last 4 decades.

Then you're probably not a neo-con.

And you don't need a double barrel lobotomy. Har-har!

I have to agree with you there. The term "neocon" is just continually misused over and over.

I think the neocons consider the war on terror to be a distraction to the US and a war against nations they want to democratize for the salvation of the world.

I think the neocons wouldn't necessarily believe Obama is making things worse, but they'd say it just to help maintain their power.

Many neocons are atheists, so the issue isn't the Jews burning in hell, but rather that the Jews are democratic.

I think neocons see the war on drugs in a light of maintaining culture, not as a matter of public safety.

I don't think neocons care about fox news as a truth-source.

The neoconservative agenda is maintaining a US culture to prevent the US from disintegrating into nihilism. Part of this is noble lies, and another part of it is having enemies to fight. I mean, that is how the neocons are NEW rather than just the same as paleocons, libertarian-conservatives, religious conservatives, Republican party-liners, populists, etc.

Exactly, so there are two groups

1. The Neoconservatives
2. Their target group, ie the idiots that have fallen for their 'noble lies' for the last 4/5 decades

War on Terror? It's a war, we're fighting terrorists. But you can't fight an ideology with force, you have to face it with ideas. Since capitalism and communism were both economic philosophies, Reagan fought the USSR on economic terms, and won.

*ducks into his zombie bunker* Iraq was a good idea. Hear me out, please. Forget Saddam, forget WMDs, the choice of Iraq was genius. It provided a battlefield in which all the accidental deaths were Muslim. Icehearted genius. Think about it, if you want to turn Muslim public opinion against terrorists, force the terrorists to kill Muslims. That being said, Saddam was a low-level a**hole who didn't have WMDs.

The foundation of the recession started a long, long time ago. As soon as big business started making big money, people with big ideas started clawing their way into management so they'd be the ones making big money. It was utterly inevitable, and I don't think economic policies really had much to do with it. The promotion of moronic home lending practices started with the gov't, but the rest was simple human greed.

Mu support for countries has nothing to do with the dominant religion of that country. Israel is a useful ally, since they generally know everything that's going on in the Middle East. Not that they always tell us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth...

I care equally about foreign and domestic policies. Rome fell from inside, and I am wary of repeating that. Furthermore, education is a big priority for me, I'm AS/BP.

We are not fighting a war on drugs, so therefore we are not winning. I do not know the true purpose of the original war on drugs. I believe that in general, pot is the only drug that isn't viciously dangerous to the whole of society.

And my main reason for keeping pot illegal is that I don't want to risk working and driving with people who habitually use *any* intoxicant. When you work around 15K lb. forklifts, and I have, you don't want a moron driving, or someone who is only a moron because he/she is still buzzed from the morning joint.

Fox News isn't fair and balanced, they're center-right. Ok, mostly right, because Alan Colmes ran like a b***h. Let's be fair, the rest of the media is generally left-of-center, so people who agree with them think Fox is way, way right. No one is in the center anymore, not one single source of news information.

I will postpone my judgement of GWB for 19 years and 10 months. Simply because I'm waiting to see the results of his policies. It'd be easy to judge him now, but I think history is best viewed when the results are clear, not just the actions. I'm not a big fan, I only voted for him because I thought Al Gore and John Kerry would be worse. I have yet to see a political candidate I respect.

I'm very conservative, but I'm not fanatical or heartless, which seems to be the popular definition of "neocon."

No, I don't think that's a good graph, the left-right system was instituted in the French Revolutionary days, but it's severlely lacking in the modern world.

The best scale system I've seen is the Political Compass test, but it has many flaws as well.

You are a neocon if you subscribe to -Commentary Magazine- and favor blowing up the Iranian nuclear sites.

The trouble is, no graphic model can adequately represent an intangible concept. However, whatever model helps the individual understand the concept best is, by definition, the best model for that individual to use.

Well, Reagan didn't so much fight as the USSR sucked. The USSR was doomed to failure long before Reagan ever came onto the scene.

Also sort of pointless. I don't think the US is winning international public opinion from this either, and more people have died from this than were ever killed by the two towers.

Seems about as pointless as the prohibition, and although less bad, still bad for the same reasons. I would bet that things wouldn't be much different with legal pot, but that we'd have a higher GDP because of it, and a higher tax base.
