I have a theory...
I'm interested in languages and religion, and I really want to use both try and bring peace to the world. I'm also wondering how I can use the gifts my Asperger's gives me (although they don't always feel like gifts) towards this goal.
One of things many Aspies are known for is emotional objectivity, I might be putting that wrong, but I hope you know what I mean. Basically, no matter how much we integrate into NT-mainstream society, we always be somewhat seperate. I hear people talking about what a "tragedy" this is. But given the current international political/diplomatic climate, I can't help but wonder if objectivity wouldn't be a boon to the whole situation. Who knows, maybe Aspies could save the world?
It's just a vague thought I had, just thought I'd send it out there, maybe plant an idea in someone's head. I refuse to believe that having Asperger's might stop us from making the world a better place, for both NTs and non.

There's nothing wrong with being ambitious. It's a kind of dynamic hobby. Lots of very energetic people have tried to save the world. Karl Marx, Pot Pol, Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, George W. Bush, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, Jesus, and many others. If nothing else, it keeps you busy but the results are not encouraging. Chess can be more absorbing and much less disastrous.
What about an aspie community it may go a bit lord of the flies but it may be a shining light for the world.Lets face it western society is going down the toilet iam sure a well thought out plan would bring in funding and there is a lot of room here in scotland s**t weather though.

I think everything's going to be alright myself. NT's seem to be slower and more decisive movers in aggregate, have to make the same mistakes but can also learn from them and they'll surprise you in some very positive ways when you least expect it.
As far as the world falling apart though - its been imploding and regrowing in perpetuum since the dawn of time, we just live with a set of history books that grab the romanticized parts and seem to make history feel like this tame little footnote compared to now. True, the weapons, the means of communication, the ability for one person to make a difference for better or worse are greater but its not so largely different from any other time, if anything we live in a much more mild and civilized age than we ever have - we can only hope it keeps going in the same direction.
People have been predicting this since the Dark Ages. No, Western Civilization is not going down the pipe. It would require a world wide catastrophe or a major World War to kill Western Civilization. If Western Civilization does fade, it will fade gradually and be replaced gradually by something else.
As it stands, there are to many Western memes embedded in world culture for Western Civilization just to fold up suddenly. Physical Science is essentially Western and it is not going to disappear any time soon. Memes from the Roman times are still maintained in our legal systems, so, in a sense, Rome has not disappeared, it has changed form a bit. Likewise many Greek ideas and categories are still in force. Philosophy is stated in the idioms of Plato and Aristotle and this after 2300 years!

yep, western civilization is nothing but a "secondary" civilization, as i've learned this last session. We only know 6 "prime" civilizations (which have their own special caracteristics but still constitute what we call a civilization, secondary basicly means itM's "copied" over another, such as the afore mentionned Greeks and Romans)
Think of it as Descent with Modification. The Greeks never quite completed science as it was in Europe. The Greeks were in the thrall of the a priori and never quite developed the empirical and experimental method. This was a Euopean innovation that took place in the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It is about 500 years old, give or take. Late Western thinking picked up a beat that was originated by the Ionian pre-Socratics and dropped. It took nearly 2000 years to pick up the beat again. The Ionian pre-Socratiics concentrated on the problems of Change vs. Constancy and the ultimate composition of the world. These are exactly the issues that modern physics addresses.
Socrates gave up; on physical science (as was indicated -The Theatatus- and -The Meno- by Plato). The Greeks became more interested in ethical and political matters than physical science. After the death of Aristotle the main line was promoted by the Stoics and Epicureans who were more oriented to ethical and psychological matters. The works of Archimedes in later Hellenic times, was actually someone off the line developed in Athens.
