Ok i read this story, and i found it a bit crazy, because he hanged himself, just because his team lost the semi final of a football match

well here is the article

An Arsenal fan in football-mad Kenya hanged himself wearing his beloved team's shirt after their defeat to Manchester United in the Champions League.

Like elsewhere across Africa, Kenyans pack bars for Premier League and Champions League matches, especially those involving Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Suleiman Omondi, 29, was found hanged at his home in a middle-class Nairobi estate shortly after leaving distraught from the pub where he had watched Arsenal lose 3-1 in their Champions League semi-final at the Emirates on Tuesday.

"He took some drinks and broke down in tears within the final minutes of the match," a fellow bar patron, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.

Police said they were called to Omondi's house on Wednesday morning. "What we are gathering is this suicide is related to the Arsenal and Manchester match," local Embakasi area police chief David Bunei said.

Bar attendants said they had to intervene after Omondi lunged at a man who suggested Arsenal would not recover from conceding two early goals. They also lost the first leg 1-0.

Brawls are common in Kenya during football matches and there have been other related suicides reported in the past.

i was in a bit of a funk when arsenal lost to manchester too but that is as far as it got. it could be all those years of cheering for the chicago cubs that put me in a more accepting frame of mind.

maybe the victim's family can sue arsenal, manchester, and the league for causing the victim's death?

I know the footy fervor is a little hard to understand. I wouldn't kill myself if Liverpool lost a game, but I'd certainly be upset and probably yell at my computer alot.

My husband doesn't understand that I turn into a screaming maniac during a match, but I do. I cannot explain it. Footy team identity is truly unique to England at least at that level. I still wear my scarf on match days and go about singing Liverpool fight songs. I don't know why. I just do.

Sueing Arsenal and ManU would be such an American thing to do and fairly disturbing. It's no one's fault except the idiot's.

no it is not a joke.

some people believe that it can never be the victim's fault for committing suicide due to depression, insanity, age, or other mitigating circumstances.

some people believe the opposite. that is is always the victims fault regardless of any circumstance.

the rest just do not care.

If it's not a joke it's a pretty stupid suggestion, it doesn't matter if it was the victims fault or not but it certainly wasn't the fault of Arsenal or United so demanding money off them would be a pretty repugnant thing to do. It would also destroy all sport if people thought they could be sued for losing, or winning.

I know exactly how you feel, I normally like to think of myself as quite a calm, rational person but for some reason a group of guys kicking a ball into a net really gets me going. It is definatly an identity thing though, like being part of some big happy family. I'm a United fan though so I'm afraid I kind of hate you by default :D

Football culture culture in the UK is embarrassing. It is just a bunch of idiots with fog horn playing the same old tunes.

I think it's worse in South America, especially in places like Brazil, where football is practically a religion, and losing means shaming your country.

It's sad and funny at the same time. Alcohol can impair judgements.

People should not drink alone. Hm... but then there might be a mass suicide.

Conclusion: people should not drink to get drunk.

No it is not worse. The actually have a football culture. Brazilians take their sport seriously but they don't take themselves too seriously. Really easy going fun loving people, and not tone deaf with their chants.

I actually think the reason why they didn't do so well in the last World cup is because most of their major player are paying in clubs in Europe. They have that attitude, which is rife in Europe. National teams don't play together expect when they have to.

pfah!

you think that is embarrassing? have you ever seen an american "football" game? 24 overpaid, overpadded crybabies on the field taking every time out they can while two groups of shapely, scantily-clad young women cavort and posture to draw attention away from the boredom on the field!

then whenever some poor baby gets hurt, they have to stop all the action while a team of boy scouts run out with their first-aid kits and render psychological counsel to their bruised, little egos.

pathetic. it embarrasses me to be an american.

go arsenal!

I'm surprised he lasted to the final whistle. That game was over after 11 minutes.
