He is in complete denial of Jim Crow.As if black people had it better then.Does he really think they would complain to wh***y?Looks like he wants to whitewash that era.Tell that crap to the families of those lynched in Louisiana.I'm sure they were very happy.

He never saw a black person mistreated because he didn't look or care.

Comparing the REQUESTED religious opinions of a 72-year-old man, born and raised in the Deep South with the life-long and life-risking journey of one of the most-admired champions of human rights in American history is political rhetoric, plain and simple.

And badly thought-out rhetoric, at that.

The two individuals do not compare.

Mrs. Parks was a Sophie Scholl, a Steven Biko, who they did not manage to kill.

Mr. Roberts own a company that makes duck calls and has lived and believed as many/most Southern men his age and background do.

No one should be compared to Mrs. Parks.

Ever.

Sen. Bayne is an idiot to compare him to Rosa Parks.

But the Duck patriarch's actual remark doesnt strike me as all that bad. They asked "what is sin?" he replied that homosexuality, beastiality, and extramarital heterosexual sex all are. Which is biblically correct as far as I know.

So even a liberal like myself who backs same-sex marriage and who doesnt totally sympathize with his pov isnt offended by his rather common nonfringe opinion.

If he had left out "beastiality" there wouldve been no problem because his utterence wouldve been taken to calling both straights and gays 'sinners', instead being taken as equating gays with animal sodomizers.

That's where political correctness has gone; no one can even answer a question honestly unless their answer is "socially acceptable" by current standards.

Indeed.

The rule, the principle, the law in America is that everyone is to be free to believe, speak, and live as he or she chooses.

That is Tom Metzger, Kanye West, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, David Ickes, Miley Cyrus, Louis Farrakhan, or Mr. Robertson.

Our founders made it quite clear over 200 years ago that not only those whom the majority agreed with should have these rights, but every citizen.

Frankly, freedom of speech is, or should be, most appreciated on WP, since so many of us Aspies and Auties do not find acceptance elsewhere.

He has a right to free speech, that's doesn't mean people have to like it.
A&E had every right to suspend him.
It's not the first time that a celebrity has lost a job over saying something stupid.

And L.Ron Hubbard through his Scientology group taught that there is no mental illness.

Scientologists believe this, and feel that psychiatry, psychology, and pharmacological treatment of emotional/psychiatric/neurological disorders is a big con and should be outlawed.

Seriously, check their website....they mean it.

How many of them get fired for their beliefs?

No one would dare.....they sue. A lot.

It's crazy,but not hateful.
Others have gotten fired for not presenting the image their employer wants to present.
The "Dude, you gotta get a Dell,"dude lost his position because of getting caught with weed.Charlie Sheen for behaving like Charlie Sheen.Susanne Summers lost the Ace Hardware contract over nude pictures.Vanessa Williams had to hand over her Miss America crown for the same reason.I think all these reasons are stupid, but if it's in the contract that you have to maintain a certain image and you fail, well, your fault. He can say what he wants, but he should have known there would be consequences.

His being suspended is a dog and pony show.
$ale$ and rating$ are up and that's all that matters.

I agree.

Suzanne Somers and Vanessa Williams posed for those pictures years before they were successful...they broke no rules AFTER being hired as a spokesperson and winning a pageant, respectively.

The network knew just what they were getting when they hired Sheen, they could not possibly have been surprised when he acted like, as MissLizard said well, 'Charlie Sheen'.

Mr. Robertson's views are well-known, were known by the network before the show was
ever put into production, and these extremely Christian Fundamentalist views are featured on the show AND have made money from thousands of watchers who have similar beliefs. Acting shocked and firing him is, as Raptor said well, 'a dog and pony show'.

I strongly suspect this ZZ top wannabe did this on purpose to cash in on a redneck protest buy of all those ugly T-Shirts and other merchandise filling up Walmart. Never heard of this show (as I cut the cable down to the $13 a month "Limited Basic" as I hate how History, Nat Geo, Discovery, A&E, Learning Channel etc have all gone to junk reality shows,) but did notice all that crap with ugly bearded rednecks on the shelves at local stores. Remember how after the Chick Fil-A thing broke all the yokels went there to eat? This guy remembers it and had they not wanted this to go out they would have simply edited his remarks out. A&E has a lot of cash invested in this show, this was probably a publicity stunt or they would have censored it to protect their investment. Myself, I really hate that "Harley Davidson bearded redneck" culture crap and wouldn't watch this show even if I had A&E. But I suspect the shows target audience has no problem with what this guy said, it's not like the show was created for Hipsters.

I don't believe that Gilbert Gottfried should have been fired. He made a joke and paid for it. Those were not his personal beliefs. I would much prefer someone joking than someone spouting out homophobic and racist remarks.

Agreed. I think society has become too over-sensitive today.
