Mickey Rooney, star of black and white cinema, and whose career continued into his latter years, has died at age ninety three.
I remember him from watching old movies on TV during weekend afternoons when I was a kid. My parents were much more familiar with him, but memories on his light comedies are still with me.

He was also the owner of the Tabas Inn outside of Downingtown, PA.

How many wives did he leave behind, besides Judy Garland?

He was married eight times, which included his marriage to Judy Garland. ^
(I overheard a reliable source offer this information, just a few moments, ago)

I thought he was already dead. I heard the other day that Doris Day was 90. I had thought she was dead too. I can't keep up with whose alive and whose dead. Is the guy who played "Fish" alive still?

Abraham Charles "Abe" Vigoda (/vɨˈɡoʊdə/; born February 24, 1921) is an American movie and television actor who appeared in dramas, including The Godfather, and in comedies such as Barney Miller and Joe Versus The Volcano. Vigoda is well known for his portrayal of Sal Tessio in The Godfather and for his portrayal of Detective Sgt. Phil Fish on the sitcom television series Barney Miller from 1975 to 1977 and on its spinoff show Fish that aired from February 1977 to June 1978 on ABC. After mistaken reports of his death in 1982 and 1987, Vigoda has been the subject of running gags as to whether he is dead or alive.

Mickey Rooney was the epitome of "Old Hollywood", sad to hear that he's gone to that great gig in the sky.

Our "special interest" is classic films, particularly those starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Mickey was never married to Judy Garland; not even in any of their ten movies together. He was married to actress Ava Gardner, though. Mickey and Judy were great friends in real life and in Mickey's autobiography he expressed regret that he never saw her as more than a pal. In hindsight, he seemed to think they would've made a great husband and wife. For anyone who's never seen any of Mickey's movies, we'd highly suggest starting with the Andy Hardy movies. Mickey plays Andy, an All American boy who has plenty of girl troubles and school troubles. He's always straightened out by his father, who is the town judge. Judy appears in three of the films. Sadly, only one is available on Netflix, "Love finds Andy Hardy." Luckily, it has Judy in it too! Most of them are on VHS though (VHS is waaay better than DVD for classic movies). Try "Strike Up the Band" and "Girl Crazy" too, two more with Judy. For solo efforts without Judy, try "Boys Town" and "the Human Comedy" and "Captains Courageous." TCM cable channel will probably be running most of his movies for all of you who get TCM. Mickey sure was a great actor--and musician--and was truly part of what made Hollywood so fabulous in the 30s and 40s.

Whoops, very sorry for the incorrect information. This morning, again, I read that, yes he was married to Judy Garland. In any case, he brought much joy to the lives of my parents and grandparents. Peace and blessings to his family and friends who must already miss him, so.

That was Andy Rooney!

Mickey Rooney was a Hollywood star. He was friends with Elizabeth Taylor and in some movies with her.
