Our "special interest" is classic films, particularly those starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Mickey was never married to Judy Garland; not even in any of their ten movies together. He was married to actress Ava Gardner, though. Mickey and Judy were great friends in real life and in Mickey's autobiography he expressed regret that he never saw her as more than a pal. In hindsight, he seemed to think they would've made a great husband and wife. For anyone who's never seen any of Mickey's movies, we'd highly suggest starting with the Andy Hardy movies. Mickey plays Andy, an All American boy who has plenty of girl troubles and school troubles. He's always straightened out by his father, who is the town judge. Judy appears in three of the films. Sadly, only one is available on Netflix, "Love finds Andy Hardy." Luckily, it has Judy in it too! Most of them are on VHS though (VHS is waaay better than DVD for classic movies). Try "Strike Up the Band" and "Girl Crazy" too, two more with Judy. For solo efforts without Judy, try "Boys Town" and "the Human Comedy" and "Captains Courageous." TCM cable channel will probably be running most of his movies for all of you who get TCM. Mickey sure was a great actor--and musician--and was truly part of what made Hollywood so fabulous in the 30s and 40s.
