Small boxers work, too.

Standing in the queue waiting to go into the supermarket today I observed a couple of other shoppers. They grabbed their trolly, made phone calls, played with their hair and only put their gloves or masks on shortly before being admitted into the shop.

At least half the 60 and 70 somethings were doing their shopping without any protective gear on at all.

I heard from a nurse that if Boris Johnson wasn't the prime minister he wouldn't be eligible for a ventilator because he's overweight. Not sure if this is actually the case but many of the old folks here in the UK are still swanning around the place dressed as if it was a bank holiday weekend.

In contrast I see more 20 somethings wearing masks and gloves.

More than half of Americans are wearing a mask in public: poll

Quote:
More than half of Americans who left their homes in the past week said they wore a mask or face covering when they went out to protect themselves from the coronavirus, a new poll reports.

The ABC/Ipsos survey found that 55 percent of Americans said they wore a face mask or other type of face covering, such as a scarf or bandana, while 45 percent said they did not. The poll was taken Wednesday and Thursday, less than a week after the White House and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced April 3 that people should wear face coverings while they are in public to slow the spread of the virus.

That’s a noteworthy change when compared to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll taken in March that found 12 percent of people said they wore a mask in public.

The ABC/Ipsos poll also found people’s willingness to wear face coverings fell along party lines, with 69 percent of Democrats saying they wore such coverings, compared to 47 percent of Republicans and 49 percent of independents.

When participants were asked if they were concerned about the pandemic, 50 percent of Democrats said they were “very concerned” they would become infected with the virus, compared with 44 percent of independents and 32 percent of Republicans.

The poll found people are still leaving their homes, with only 13 percent saying they didn’t leave their house in the past week.

Oh that makes sense how the police is unnecessarily strict (from all you related before)....
that people don't take too well to face masks.

Australia is reputed to be one of the most easygoing and social countries anyway, like Italy.

Although I maintain that no face mask is as effective as a closed vehicle!!

I guess it's about keeping everyone expecting the worst (from police), so they don't have a chance to go out and ignore every recommendation from being fed up...

I guess here it's less strict bcuz there most people are seen following all the guidelines...

Australia also have the lowest death rate of any OECD country because of social distancing

Mandatory face masks are not necessary

True.

I wonder how much people's mental health is suffering from isolating.
I hope the majority of people are still checking on each other, with phone calls and video chats.
Esp kids need that.

I'm not sure how long people will cope with the lockdown?

What's more of an issue are the job losses and pay cuts. I think within a few months everyone will be impacted financially,

Some people might be impacted in a good way for their finances.

The amount of divorces and break-ups may spike just from the frustrations of being cooped up together, and/or losing one's job from this.

Issues with one person not doing their share in looking after kids during school and daycare closures.

Issues with support payments if someone's workplace didn't compensate them adequately for business failing/putting things on hold/etc.
A build-up of issues from courts being closed.

Anyway whatever the misery, family lawyers for sure will be richer.

The climate doomsday clock is about as accurate as the covid19 doomsday model forecasts.

predictive models are always out by a margin of error, but they do provide a guide for public policy
