Yes. For the first couple of seasons...our family...our friends' families...and everyone in America would shake their heads and say "gee are ollah salivate?????".
In fact the newspapers suppliment called "Parade" even had to print what that line really was for all us befuddled readers demanding to know.
But in the later seasons Edith and Archie would slow down and come down hard on each syllable ...and you could actually decipher "gee our old... LaSalle...ran...great....those were the daaaaays".
Watch the reruns.
Trouble is Dad said that "they arent of the class of people who would have owned a La Salle". Mom countered that "they might have owned a used one". Like poor White trash today might own a used Caddy.
Wasnt born in the interwar period so I dunno.

if you listen to the lyrics you can tell that they communicated at 2 levels, one satirical and one nostalgic. lear and the songwriters were throwing smoke at the common "rose-colored glasses" nostalgic vision many amuuricans had of the "good ol' days" when in fact most folk barely kept themselves fed with a roof over their head.

obviously false assertions as there was welfare back in "the good ol' days" - nobody but richie riches drove lasalles back then either. herbert hoover's shortcomings were widely critiqued and evident [via scattered "hooverville" homeless communities] by way of his pig-headed refusal to lift a finger to help during the depression, and as a result lost re-election by a landslide. and there were cross-dressers and LGBT folk back then in the same rough proportions [1-10% though severely closeted outside the big cities] as today.

To be sure, conservatives have always seen the alleged golden age of the past through rose tinted glasses.
