"Hope for the best and prepare for the worse" might be a good strategy.

And the really messed up part of all this is that I get the feeling that a lot of people don't want us to ever recover from Trump. I can't begin to tell you how many tankies and CCP/Kremlin simps I see all over the internet rooting for our downfall because America is allegedly an evil empire.

I just don't get it.

The Russians hate America. You just have to listen to their internal media to realise that. It is curious how they constantly humiliate Trump, and yet he is always a Russian fanboy. It makes you wonder if they have some kind of hold over him. I read that the Russians have invested into Trump's Bitcoin. Perhaps it is as simple as that. One thing is for sure; Trump puts his personal fortune development before the American people's interest. I have never seen such bald-faced political corruption from a democratic leader in my life. It has been extremely educational to say the least. But the silver lining is, as I have said, Trump will leave the Presidency in a little over 3 years, and THAT will be a red-letter day for most of us across the world, particularly for the Ukrainians. What a silly orange goose he is. Entertaining, but an absolute mockery of what a leader "should" be.

Despite trampling all over the American constitution, I doubt Trump will be allowed to become a Bonafide autocrat. I doubt that Vance will be more successful. There have been signs of a lot of Trump-voter regret, though, surprisingly, polls suggest the republican influence has increased. For the love of God, why on earth should this be the trend? For someone outside of America, this is confounding. Here in Australia, and many parts of the world, Trumps is seen as an orange disease. Is the immigration crackdown the key issue for most Americans? If not, could you give us your thoughts?

To be sure, there is a lot of disgust for Trump's so called crack down on illegal immigration, as it's hardly the worst of the worst who are being deported. Rather, it's hard working people who just want a better life. On top of that, American citizens with dark skin are being arrested and harassed by ICE, which few Americans would defend. In all honesty, though, I think most of the backlash is economic, with people sick or his idiot tarifs and the misery they bring. Many are also embarrassed by America's loss of international esteem due to Trump's laughable policies. Then there's the whole RFK Jr war on science BS, that will leave the country unprepared when the next pandemic hits.

That is enlightening, but it doesn't address my question. What attracted voters to overwhelmingly choose the orange buffoon? Even holding your nose while you vote doesn't seem to explain the result. As I said, to me it seems that Trump was the least worst of the two evils at the time, but this was before people realised the true nature of "post-assassination attempts" Trump. I never liked the man, but I had no idea he would become this feral this term. He is responsible for the destabisation of the modern world, FFS. The irony. It seems Trump will be the direct cause of the next world war. Weakness, which he is epically showing to Putin, is encouraging the Russian war criminal. I wonder if Trump will still get his Peace Prize if the apocalypse does happen under his watch? In this F-up new world, it wouldn't surprise me if this insanity happens. For God's sake! I just got a new girlfriend! I don't need to die just now. lol

Trump won the last election because he made the high prices at stores out to be worse than they were. That, and people had amnesia about the Trump first term, thinking things were so much cheaper under him (they actually weren't). People just didn't realize how good they had it under Biden.

I was at the grocery store yesterday and saw shortages of certain items, like cleaning stuff. Funny thing is, No issues with that under Biden or Obama.

Perhaps the White House is buying it all to try to keep Trump clean.

I have lymphoedema. I wear support stockings for it. I'm very sedentary. Getting the balance right between being too sedentary vs on my feet too long, so that a level 6 pain kicks in, is very difficult . That's how things have been since the falls nearly 4 years ago. The pain labelled 'psychological' by a GP and paramedics, due to my having autism and severe mental illness. Even after a partial hip replacement, 10 minutes standing or moving about and the pain kicks in. The GP who thought the pain was psychological? 'You can take up to 90mgs of codeine a day for it'

Gee, when I read the topic label I thought it was talking about mentally sick.

After reading some to the posts I see this thread is talking about physically sick.

I'm inclined to think both versions have validity.
