Sounds like she's at the end of her rope.
I don't necessarily agree that calling the cops was the right thing to do, but it also sounds like this kid needs the equivalent of a smack to the head, asafp.

Heck, if this mother's to the point she has to call the cops on her son for stealing a doggone toy, it's probably too late for the boy. She should've nipped his behavior in the bud before he turned 3 let alone 12 years old. Where's Super Nanny when you need her?

Oh, and if that had been me as a 12 year-old stealing Game Boys, I would've wanted to be in jail.....to get away from the hurtin' my mother would've put on me when she got a hold of me.

While I do agree about the parenting skills of the mother, and the situation in general, I have to wonder this: Who puts their presents under the tree this early? Let alone put up the tree? Some people's timing of the Christmas season baffles me, sometimes...

I wonder if they have any concept of the paperwork involved and cost of doing something like this through the legal system. This should have been handled at home and long before now. Going to the police for something like this is just a waste of resources that could be better spent elsewhere

If the kid is so badly behaved and out of control, why are they buying him a gameboy? I tell my son all the time that video games are a privelege and not a right. He wakes up each morning without the privilege and earns it as the day goes on, and if he's acted like a human and not a maniac by the end of the school day, he has the video games...

Problem #1: The kid is 12, the mother is 27. Even aspies can do the math on that (15 years!).

Problem #2: The kid is 12, his great grandmother is 63. That's an average of 17 years between generations.
