http://deadspin.com/california-high-sch ... 1460479915 - For those of you who live outside North America: There is currently a controversy over the use of Native American symbols as school/sports nicknames. But now, looking at this, I think we may have offended a WHOLE new ethnic group........ what's next, the Crippled People?! SMH

Indeed. If a school names themselves the "Aspies", then I'm saying "THAT'S IT, GUYS! I QUIT! I'M SHOOTING MYSELF INTO OUTER SPACE!"

They should ban school mascots entirely, so that NOBODY gets offended.

In a post 9-11 America "Arabs" is a strange team name for a number of reasons.

But 9-11 aside is "Arabs" really any different from the "Fighting Irish", or the "Montreal Canadiens"?

Well, maybe it is worse because Norte Dame (atleast originally) was largely composed of Irish Americans. And the Canadiens are often real Francophone Canadiens(ot failing that- anglophone Canadians). But none of the kids in this HS are real 'Arabs'. So it is kinda wierd.

Seriously, if mascots were banned, obviously there would be no more offensive mascots.

I mean, some schools have already banned Honor Societies and Awards Nights, so why not limit the fun even further?

To further guard against offense, team "names" should be banned. Just refer to the team by town/city name.
Then we should ban offensive town/city names. Maybe go with the Half Life 2 approach and just number them.

"This week, City 17 will be playing against City 23."

Of course, we don't want hurt feelings, so as in youth soccer in the US, score will not be kept track of.

Cheering for teams is also not allowed. That could lead to bad things.

Better yet, attendance at such competitions should be banned, as well.

"Last night, at precisely 19:05, the population statistics of City 17 were compared to the population statistics of City 23 under the variables of the weather conditions at a location midway between the two venues at the time of the comparison. It was determined by a consensus of league microprocessors that the contest would have ended in a draw. Once again, fairness and equality have been proven to work. This announcement was brought to you by Soylent Green. Hallowed be the People."

I nod my head in appreciation and respect.

Oh come on. We'd be perfect mascots...

...for the Mathletes.

Or the debate team.

On the bright side, at least he's not depicted wearing a suicide belt.
